Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson sets Guinness World Record for selfies

Patrick Peterson is fast. The Cardinals cornerback ran the 100 meters in 10.92 seconds while in high school and posted a 4.34 40-yard dash before being selected fifth overall in the 2011 draft. He also holds the NFL record for most punt return touchdowns in a single season. The guy clearly knows a thing or two about quickness.

This expertise in speed was put to use during Super Bowl media week, when Peterson set out to break a world record. No, the four-time Pro-Bowler didn't have to break into a sprint to accomplish the feat, which was of a different, more digital nature. Peterson teamed up with hundreds of students from Glendale's Deer Valley High School to shatter the record for most selfies in an hour.

Prior to the 24-year-old's effort, the Guinness World Record was 657. After an hour in the Deer Valley gymnasium, Peterson had totaled 1,449 selfies, which had to meet a handful of requirements: the picture must contain Peterson and another person, both subjects' necks and heads must be in the frame and a portion of Peterson's arm must also be included. No arm, no selfie. Think about that the next time you and your buddy settle into focus in front of your outstretched phone. There are rules to selfies.

Though the record seems like a challenge any millenial could meet, we should be careful about minimizing the feat. Peterson, an incredibly fit professional athlete who is NBC Sports' acting social media correspondent during Super Bowl week, labored through an hour of keeping his arm extended to execute over a thousand proper selfies.

"This is very tiring," Peterson said during the process of breaking the record. "Much more tiring than I thought it would be, but I'm having fun."

Despite having hundreds of selfies disqualified for failing to meet the above requirements - seriously - Peterson more than doubled the record. Fitting that a guy who has totaled 15 career interceptions in the NFL set a Guinness World Record for pics.
