Tony Schumacher's reign in NHRA's Top Fuel division may be over

The video is from Jeff Diehl's Funny Car qualifying run at Las Vegas over the weekend. Diehl was unhurt in the crash, which looked even more spectacular because that qualifying run was being run at night.

Tony Schumacher, the six-time defending champion of the NHRA's Top Fuel division (Jimmie Johnson who?) won Sunday at Las Vegas, but his title hopes are still in jeopardy. He's 85 points behind rival Larry Dixon going into the final race at Pomona.

In order for Schumacher to take his seventh straight title, he would have to qualify first and win at Pomona, while Dixon qualified ninth or worse and lost in the first round. So yeah, it's going to be tough.

Fourteen-time Funny Car champion John Force won at Vegas Sunday to close the gap on points leader Matt Hagan to 37, a much more doable feat. Defending champion Robert Hight -- who was out of championship contention anyway -- didn't qualify at Vegas.

Greg Anderson has a 115-point lead on Mike Edwards -- almost a sure thing -- in the Pro Stock category, while the closest top class is the Pro Stock Motorcycles, where Andrew Hines leads LE Tonglet by 34.
