Brian France says that the Nationwide Series won't have a Chase

So much for that idea.

Contrary to reports that NASCAR was considering a Chase for the Nationwide Series, NASCAR CEO Brian France said Tuesday that a Chase wouldn't be implemented in NASCAR's second-tier series.

From The Sporting News:

“We have four national divisions, and we’ve got to distinguish them,” France said Tuesday night at a Texas Motor Speedway 2011 schedule announcement. “I think making too many things that would not differentiate them wouldn’t be good.

“So I don’t think you’re going to see that—I know you’re not going to see that.”

That above quote doesn't leave much wiggle room, does it? France tends to speak in very vague terms when talking to the media, never wanting to eliminate any possibility on the record. While it may not seem like a guarantee, it's probably as close to one as you're going to get from Brian France on the record until all of the tweaks to the Nationwide Series are made official.

France again said that NASCAR was looking into changes to limit Sprint Cup drivers' participation in the Nationwide Series but that NASCAR hadn't made any decisions about how to do that.
