WEC news: Faber to bantamweight, Cruz to defend belt in August

The small but mighty fighters of the WEC will be back in action this August, with the promotion's biggest star moving down a weight class.

Urijah Faber, the onetime featherweight champ, is moving down to bantamweight and will face Takeya Mizugaki on August 18, most likely in Las Vegas. Though Faber had great success in the past at 145, he has losses against Jose Aldo and Mike Brown there, and is unlikely to get through them anytime soon. He also wrestled in college at 133 lbs., so it won't be his first time competing at this weight.

Also on that card, bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz will get his first chance to defend his belt against Faber's teammate, Joseph Benavidez. Cruz won the belt from Brian Bowles on the same card that featured Benavidez submitting Miguel Torres. That win earned Benavidez a title shot.

One more bantamweight star is looking to fight on that August card. At his day in East Chicago last week, Miguel Torres mentioned that he is looking to get back in action in August or September.
