Showdown, Week 42: United States vs. International
So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into tournaments, and because we're both inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Shane Bacon and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points. (Double for the majors.) And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. It's time for international competition; go Presidents Cup!
Bacon: I nearly picked the International team. I like their squad. I like all the Australians, I like that the tournament is on their home turf, and it seems like they're getting along really well. BUT, I couldn't do it. I couldn't go away from my Americans. I'm going with the red, white and blue, and hoping that Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods can play like they used to play, and the rest of the guys just stay the same. Vegas has it at near even money, so at this point, it's a toss-up. U-S-A! U-S-A!
Busbee: So, not giving me a whole lot of choice here, huh? I'll take Europe and laugh all the way to the ... what? This isn't the Ryder Cup? Well, hell. All right, then, give me the Internationals. I still think Greg Norman is like the Norv Turner of the golf world, but who knows, maybe his crew can bring one back to ... the rest of the planet that's not America. Go, International!
