British Open weather forecast calls for … not much
GULLANE, Scotland – If you're one of those who looks forward to weather dominating the British Open, this likely isn't your year.
In the days leading up to the 142nd edition, the sun has been an almost constant presence above Muirfield, and the same is expected through the rest of the week.
A lack of precipitation has made an already firm track as hard as marble, and it's only going to get harder.
"It's a way a links course should be played," Rory McIlroy said. "… You've got to have quite a bit of imagination to obviously get the ball on the ground and get it running for the most part."
Here is a look at the four-day forecast at Muirfield:
Thursday: Sunny, less than 5-percent chance of rain, winds about 10-15 mph with no gusts expected.
Friday: Cloudy in the morning with a 20-percent chance of rain, clearing in the afternoon with winds expected to hover around 10 mph.
Saturday: Just like Friday, cloudy in the morning with a 20-percent chance of rain. The sun is expected to pop out in the early afternoon with winds remaining calm, around 10 mph.
Sunday: If weather is going to come into play, it could happen Sunday, though with the ferocity of a kitty cat compared to the usual blustery Open conditions. Sunday's forecast calls for clouds most of the day, with a 20-percent chance of rain and wind – hold onto your hat – blowing up to 14 mph.
