Bird Man at the U.S. Open: Turns out he had a reason after all

Turns out that the loon who clucked like a bird, interrupting Webb Simpson's U.S. Open trophy presentation, had a method to his madness: he's a deforestation activist, protesting the loss of pristine natural habitats for creatures unable to speak for themselves.

Well, that and he was drunk.

San Francisco police identified the man as Andrew James Dudley, age 40, of Wallasey, England. Dudley apparently refers to himself as "Jungle Bird," and according to police, he had availed himself of a few too many spirits while at Olympic.

Police didn't file charges against Dudley, since he actually didn't break any laws. His ticket allowed him access to the grounds, which included the 18th green, and there's no law against making bird noises.

Awful Announcing first pegged Jungle Bird, finding his Facebook page and YouTube Channel, where he's got a habit of jumping into public scenes and making that instant-classic call. Here's a video of him giving none other than Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Webb Simpson treatment:

So there you have it. Lunacy with a purpose! Or something. We're sure this won't inspire imitators at all.
