Video: Andy Fantuz records a crazy first touchdown of the CFL season

The Toronto Argonauts may have been playing their first game at BMO Field Thursday night, but it was the Hamilton Tiger-Cats who stole the show early on, with slotback Andy Fantuz recording the CFL season's first touchdown on a crazy play. Ticats' quarterback Jeremiah Masoli rolled out and threw a 45-yard bomb to the end zone, and it initially looked like defensive back Isaiah Green had a chance to intercept it, but it bounced off his hands right to Fantuz for a touchdown. Here's the video:

That's a bit of a fluky play, but it's also one that shows Fantuz's skill, his hands, and his attention to following the ball all the way through. It's a great grab, and one that turned a potentially-negative play into a very positive one. We'll see if Fantuz can make more grabs like that this year, but if he can, he'll be a vital part of Hamilton's offence. He battled injuries last year, and only recorded 432 receiving yards in nine games, but if he's able to stay on the field and keep making plays, he could be an important piece for the Tiger-Cats.

This was a big part of the 18-0 lead Hamilton sprung out to (score as of partway through the second quarter) Thursday, too. If the Ticats are able to hang on for the win, this will be seen as a key moment for them. It helped quiet the Argos' crowd and further Hamilton's momentum, and that's not insignificant. This was also a terrific highlight to kick off the CFL season, and one that promises many more exciting moments to come.
