New Vikings stadium being constructed on Metrodome site?

The Minnesota Vikings have been trying to get a new stadium in a new site from the state, but negotiations haven't taken them too far.

After years of going back and forth, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf "reluctantly will accept" the state's offer to keep the team exactly where it is but in a newly constructed stadium, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

While "nothing is final," the idea would be to move the team to another site temporarily while the new stadium is built, the paper reports. That site is expected to be the University of Minnesota's open-air TCF Bank Stadium and the team would be there for three years while the new stadium is constructed, the paper reports. The word is that the university has "begun talks with the University of Illinois to learn of its experience in hosting the Chicago Bears for the 2002 season while Chicago's Soldier Field was renovated," the Pioneer Press reports.

The new stadium is slated to cost $918 million and will partially be funded through "tax revenue that currently supports the Minneapolis Convention Center," the paper reports.
