In the past year, Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo's name has appeared in more than a few rumors of possible trades. It appears that he'll have to deal with yet another one.
Sports Illustrated has it that the Grizzlies are "looking for a No. 1 pick" in exchange for the man who was the third overall pick in the 2008 draft out of USC.
Mayo now comes off the bench for the Grizz and has been delivering this year. He is averaging 24:30 minutes, 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He's averaging 44 percent for his 3-pointers (much higher than his 38.1 percent overall average) and he scored a career-high six in a game last weekend. His rebounds-per-game is also up from 2.4 last season.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Monday that Mayo probably won't be moved. "Griz management isn't seriously thinking of dealing Mayo nor is his possible, restricted free-agent status this summer a major concern," the paper noted. "Mayo likely will remain with the Griz this season because of his productivity and the Grizzlies' ability to control his future with the right of first refusal on contract offers."
Memphis came back from 20 points down Monday night to beat the Golden State Warriors for the team's seventh straight win.
