Angels acquire RHP McGuire from Rangers

The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Deck McGuire from the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night in exchange for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

McGuire, 28, opened the season with the Toronto Blue Jays and allowed six runs in 8 1/3 innings. He is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in 10 career appearances (two starts) in the big leagues.

The Rangers claimed McGuire off waivers Friday and sent him to Triple-A Round Rock. He was designated for assignment three days later, which prompted the Angels to negotiate a deal for the former first-round pick (No. 11 overall, 2010).

The Angels designated catcher Juan Graterol for assignment in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old has a career average of .222 (22-for-99) with six doubles and 13 RBIs in 58 games across three big league seasons.
