Georgia Tech (March 15)
Junior wide receiver Calvin Johnson opted not to re-run the 40-yard dash ... hit 42.5-inch broad jump and 11'7" broad jump ... very impressive all-around positional workout... close to 75 total NFL staff and evaluators were present for this workout ... the Redskins had a larger than usual number of people in attendance, including owner Daniel Snyder... all times/results were recorded on an outdoor FieldTurf-like surface.
Central Michigan (March 15)
Senior offensive tackle Joe Staley ran between 4.78 and 4.82 in the 40 ... 4.34 short shuttle ... 7.17 3-cone ... 32" vertical and 9'9" broad jump ... opted not to bench press after doing 27 bench reps of 225 pounds at the combine ... measured at 6-5½, 304 pounds ... according to one long-time evaluator of offensive linemen: "That was probably one of the best all-around workouts I've seen by a big tackle in recent years" ... "He moves around like a DB" ... "Light on his feet and just great movement skills and agility" ... "My personal assessment would be that kid does not last past the top 20 picks; just too much ability and the potential to lock down a left tackle spot for the next 10 years" ... has a total of eight private workouts setup before the draft … Miami was one team that seemed to pay special attention to his workout... all 32 NFL teams were represented, including 11 offensive line coaches... several area small school prospects were allowed to perform positional drills, but not work out so Grand Valley State senior quarterback Cullen Finnerty, who had an impressive workout earlier this week, threw 40 passes to a variety of pass-catchers and then spoke with teams afterwards.
Central Connecticut State (March 15)
Senior running back Justise Hairston ran between 4.45 and 4.47 in the 40... 10'4" broad jump … 4.12 short shuttle ... 6.80 3-cone ... 38.5" vertical … 25 bench reps ... measured at 6-1 1/8, 223 ... his numbers were recorded at a private workout done with the Eagles ... he has two other private workouts scheduled: the Bengals next Tuesday and the end of the month with the Jaguars.
Virginia Tech (March 15)
Senior wide receiver/returner David Clowney ran 6.62 in the short shuttle ... also had 32.5" vertical and then did a sensational positional workout catching everything thrown his way ... opted to stand on his other results from the combine... over 25 NFL personnel were in attendance for this event.
UAB (March 15, Samford campus)
Senior running back/fullback Corey White ran between 4.62 and 4.65 in the 40 ... 36" vertical and 9'4" broad jump ... 16 bench reps... measured at 6-1¾, 239 ... has a pro day session on Monday at UAB ... considered as either a one-back or West Coast-style fullback ... has received interest from a lot of teams in the postseason … a handful have him rated as a solid mid-round choice ... Kansas City and New Orleans were on site for this event.
Delta State (March 15)
Senior quarterback Scott Eyster had a private workout for the Giants and will hold a similar workout for the Browns before his pro day on March 27 ... he passed for over 14,000 yards at the DII program and also expects to run in the 4.6 range in a few weeks... roughly 6-8 teams have been in contact with him about possible private workouts in-or-around his pro day.
Michigan State (March 14)
Senior quarterback Drew Stanton did a full positional workout for scouts, which included throwing 75 passes to a variety of receivers ... he also met with representatives of Baltimore, Detroit, Miami, Minnesota and Washington.
Grand Valley State (March 12)
Senior defensive end Derrick Jones ran between 4.72 and 4.75 in the 40-yard dash ... 24 bench reps... measured at 6-3 7/8, 284 pounds ... flashes pass-rush ability ... very flexible and athletic for his size ... needs to play with better technique and with more of a nasty streak ... could find his way into the late rounds thanks to his size/speed combination
Senior fullback/defensive end Michael McFadden ran between 4.70 and 4.73 in the 40-yard (one attempt) ... pulled up after with a bit of a right quad strain ... stuck it out and did positional drills at fullback ... catching passes out of the backfield ... will set up another workout to perform agility drills ... making the transition from DE/LB ... blocked very well in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge and has great special teams potential, as well... a total of 14 NFL teams were present for this workout.
Private visits and workouts
LSU junior QB JaMarcus Russell: Has workouts arranged with Oakland, Detroit, Cleveland and Washington.
Lane (Tenn.) senior WR/KR Jacoby Jones: Has private visits set up with Minnesota and Philadelphia. He will also do private workouts for Cincinnati, New England, Philadelphia and Tennessee.
Clemson senior DE Gaines Adams: Has a private visit set up with Minnesota and is expected to take between 5-7 other visits among teams with top 10 picks in the draft.
Delaware senior TE Ben Patrick: Has private visits set up with the Jets and Philadelphia. He will also do a private workout for Cincinnati.
New Mexico senior LB Quincy Black: Has a private visit set up with Tampa Bay. He will also do private workouts with Atlanta, Carolina, Chicago and St. Louis.
Notre Dame senior DL Derek Landri: Has a private visit set up with St. Louis. He will also try to work out for scouts at Notre Dame's second pro day next week.
Central Missouri State senior QB Toby Korrodi: After an impressive throwing performance at the combine, has arranged private workouts with Kansas City, NY Giants, Philadelphia and St. Louis.
