Behold! The perfect storm of hilarious and unbelievable football moments all wrapped up into one play. It's all here — a player blasting the ball into his teammate's face, which acts as a launching pad for a long-distance shot back at their team's poor, unprepared goalkeeper, who could only wave at the ball as it sailed over outstretched arms for an own goal. It's like YouTube held some perverse mating ritual with a bunch of its most popular clips and this is the mutant it produced.
But can it possibly be real?
It is. The clip is from a recent Irish league match between Waterford United and Mervue United. According to the match report on Waterford's official website, the goal came in the 53rd minute and was credited to Mervue's Mike Elwood — the unfortunate chap who got smashed in the face. Two more goals were scored after that to give Waterford a 3-0 win, but neither could have been nearly as spectacular.
