I understand and like when players come back to their home team after a trade and/or whatever, but since when has it become such a huge deal. It seemed like they were welcoming back Michael Jordan to the NBA or even saying goodbye at one of his last games or something. I just think that their is a bigger picture here. We glorify things like this way too much, I can totoally understand a chant and cheer and a long introduction for a retirement comeback or a farewell from the game, but to go to such degrees for a player comming back for the first time to play AGAINTS the home team, its just a little too much. I would be inclined to even participate with something to this measure if Chauncy was comming back to play for the Pistons or something, ya then there is something to cheer about. I'm not hating on Chauncy or any of the fans or teams, Im just saying its not as big of deal as they made it seem like, when you really think about it. No offense.

Wow. That was like the equivalent of Lloyd Dober blasting some Peter Gabriel to Diane Court on the boombox. Think the Piston can regret this trade any more?

Its not about the Pistons regretting the trade. Everyone knows the trade was made for financial reasons and landing a big free agent to begin a new era. Yea the Pistons miss him but it was the right move during this financial crisis and with the upcoming free agent market. Chauncey is a great guy, great leader, total class act in a league of few, and he got the Pistons a ring. Whats wrong with giving him a 2 minute ovation that he deserved

It shouldn't be about a trade or whether the Pistons regret it or not. They clearly don't, because let's face it, CB is getting old and they want to start fresh with a young core, which is why they cleared up the cap space and rented AI for a year.
But again, this isn't about a trade. This is about welcoming back a member of our family for the past seven years. A guy who wanted to end his career here, but was sent home, where, let's face it, he belongs. So no, ScottyJ, this was deserved, and in my opinion, it should've lasted minutes longer. As beloved as CB was, he deserves much more respect than that.

chauncey is classy, and people love that. i have no doubt that he'll finish his career with detroit, likely for the vet's minimum.
that was good stuff, we did that for clyde when he came back to portland after the trade that sent him to houston.

I was at this game and the ovation Chauncey received was amazing. 99% of the people attending the game were there to see Chauncey come back. The atmosphere in the Palace was that of the last couple years, unlike the lackluster atmosphere this past year. You can see at one point of the video some guy is wiping away tears. I hope the win against Chauncey and the new starting lineup gives the Pistons a much needed boost this year. Maybe we'll make some noise in the playoffs after all.

O, and the audio doesn't do the ovation justice. You couldn't even hear yourself think when they introduced Chauncey.

He was a crucial piece to a 6 time consecutive eastern conference finals team, two NBA finals, One NBA Championship team where they ended the reign of Kobe and Shaq (5 game sweep anyone?) something the Spurs were unable to do, and an NBA Finals MVP. Do you have a player on your team that has done that? That was then traded? No one wanted him to go, not him, not the fans not even management but at the end of the day it's still a business. He was traded back to his home of Denver (class move) and then given the minimum amount of respect he deserved by his fans on his return HOME. What do you think was going through the minds of his teammates last night? Think they want to be respected like that? How can anyone not appreciate what the fans did last night? This is just another example of how the best fans live in the Motor City! Now don't make us come out of the stands and whip you a$$ !! LOL

We love Chauncey in Detroit! Way better than AI but the cap space that came with "the answer" was too great for Joe D to turn down. He did great things for the team and the city and will go down as one of the greatest Pistons ever. A class act and an extremely talented player.

OMG I was there too! I'm still getting goosebumps! I think all of us there united in saying "Wish you were still a Pistons". Nobody was happy about the trade and yes, we've been playing terribly but surprisingly (NOT) now that A. I. has been out for the last 3 games and my boy Rip's been starting again (should never have been a 6th man) we've won the last 3 games and against great teams, Orlando friday, Boston on sunday and the Nuggets last nite! It was touching because you always here negative shi* about Detroit and 'us' fans but we gave a classy guy the welcome he soooo deserved! Now, back to business, A.I. needs to be benched permanently! The Pistons played so well together all these years cuz we play as a 'team'...there never was a single "Star" on the team, until A I came to town! He doesn't know how to fit in and it has cost us tremendously! I love my Detroit Pistons and had a great time at the game! Glad to have seen Chauncey and super glad he didn't get the "W" :)

Why would you even question giving him a standing ovation when he came back to town? For added measure, every Piston fan knew their team would be playing better this year with Billups so to see him back was great. He gave his heart and soul to Motor City and never caused problems. Great leader and played well. It's never about ME when the core was still intact (Billups, Rip, Prince, Rasheed, McDyess and you can argue big Ben). If Dumars didn't blow his draft pick on Darko back in the draft and drafted Bosh to play Center...would have expected great things from this team.

you wrong. in order to win championship you need a Starr and AI is the star but the other player didn't except that and with that coach Michael Curry this was a none results. We need AI more than ever to win championship. AI need to play with Rip and Stuckey on the bench.

It was gggrreat to see Chauncey at the Palace. Fun too, to see Rip poking at his shots. The Pistons were obviously excited because they definitely picked up their play. Tay knocking 'em down, etc. Double digits for most starters... Mason said it all: MVP of the 2004 Championship Team. Mr. Bigshot, Smooth, an All-Star, MVP and Golden Nugget!

Chauncey Billups, AKA Mr. Big Shot, embodied that Detroit Pistons swagger for 6+ years and we appreciate that. With that said it is a business and Chauncey will always be a Piston, but in order for us to be competitive in the future it was a necessary move. But lets be clear about a few things. AI is a surefire hall of famer. But Detroit would never win a championship with a 32 yo Allen Iverson dominating the ball. For one, AI himself has never won a championship. Not even in his athletic prime. As great a player as he is(was), he will never be max effective until he realizes that he can't throw up 30 shots a night playing on a team that even HE said gave him the best chance to win. Yes I know that the entire blame for the Pistons mediocre record cant be put on his shoulders, but when he did play the other Pistons looked lost and confused. Because they were standing around watching him dribble. But anyway, Chauncey we'll see you in a few years back where you belong.
