Ball Don't Lie - NBA

The 'Year of the NBA Clock' continued in Philadelphia last night. With the Sixers back in the locker room playing Madden and eating oranges slices — convinced they had just beat Cleveland 90-89 — the NBA officials convened at the monitors to take a second look at the game's final play. After much deliberation, they decided Samuel Dalembert had fouled Devin Brown with 0.2 seconds left, thus awarding him two free throws. Here's the drama, via Odenized:

Adding insult to injury, the loss means that the Sixers will be the seventh seed in the playoffs and face the Conference Finals machine Pistons in the first round. The boys over at Passion and Pride are not impressed.

But hey, props to Brown for calmly sinking both of his free throws after the extended break in action. He should consider becoming an NFL placekicker.

Why was there a replay anyway? I thought those were only for when someone made a shot at the buzzer. Brown was pretty clearly fouled, but it wasn't called and he didn't make the shot.

Players get mugged all the time at the end of games they just don't call it, thats the way it is.All the fans and the whole NBA knows it.They dont go to replay. Lebron and his team started crying and the NBA showed there loyalty and gave them a gift and screwed the 76ers and there big comeback.Reminds me of when the NBA and the NBA refs screwed the MAVS and gave a huge present to D.Wayde and the Heat by gift wrapping the championship for them by calling invisible fouls.PS...The MAVS were dominating the series till they started calling invisafouls...bull**** bull**** bull****................

Jon L, I'm pretty sure one of the refs did call a foul initially and they went back to the replay to see if the foul was called (and/or occurred) before the buzzer.

officiating has not been too favorable for any philly team lately...started with a few games back with the Phils getting 1 taken away from them against the Mets in the 10th with a bad call at homeplate. now with the Sixers getting 1 stolen from them with a poor call (just let the players play with the final ticks of the clock, no game should end on free throws). I hate to watch anymore Flyers games, but I am sure 1 will be given to the Caps...A word for the officials - take some classes you all need to brush up on your skills.

A foul is a foul... when you get hit when you are trying to make a shot thats a foul. devin brown was clearly undercut by dalembert. its unfortunate that the referees had to make that call but that is clearly a foul by dalembert. the referees have a job to do. if the referees will let that go then they are not doing their job. look at the referee at the bottom right corner of the screen, you can clearly see him calling a foul.

replays are allowed at the end of each quarter. it just so happened that at the end of this game the referees had to decide whether to call a foul or not. in these kind of situations, the referees are the losers. what if the referees dont call a foul then its gonna be the other way around. instead of a " PHILLIES LOSE ON A CONTROVERSIAL CALL" its gonna be " CAVS LOSSES ON A NON CALL" . There is clearly a foul. A call has to be made. Its not a clean play. All the 76ers fans have to do is forget about that game and look forward to the Playoffs. Their first without Iverson. GOODLUCK!!!

Cavs will not make it pass 1st round of playoffs, but that's obviously a foul, and it should've been called, and neither team will make the finals anyway, so there's no point even if the sixers won that one, they be 6th, and still lose, or Cavs loses, and still lose in the playoffs.

Come on have you guys ever seen the refs do this for any other team. People get fouled all the freakin time, but they never say..thats look at the replay to see if the guy was fouled. I mean come on the game was freakin over.
The refs probably called up Stern so he could give them the ok....just like he gave them the ok to put the cavs in the finals last year.

Here's what I find funny, the article states, "as a result, they are now 7th seed and will face...."
WHO GIVES A CRAP. I LOVE how the bottom 3 or 4 teams in the EAST have LOSING records. Yet, the Warriors could tie to have the best record for not making the playoffs.
Cavaliers aren't really that great. They have very similar records to the Warriors and Nuggets in the West...so I bet if Denver and GSW were in the East, the Cavs would be seeded 6th or 7th, because I'm sure the Nuggets and Warriors would beat the Cavs.
GHEEZ...who gives a crap...a foul is a foul, who cares, yes, BUT dam, they in the Playoffs with a freakin losing record. The East will really be fun to watch. (yeah right!)

Cavs got lucky, stern was watching over the game making sure the Wiz don't get home court.
there was NO reason for ANY review to happen, it should ONLY happen when a player makes a shot at the buzzer, which in this case did NOT happen.
Lebron traveled before hand anyway, so why wouldn't they call that?

The Sixers got srewed out of a win and it cost them the six seed. Plus the only reason why the refs did what they did was because of king James and his Cavs team. Also who in the NBA doesn't want to see them win.

If they watched the replay and gave Brown the foul, why didn't they go back 1 second earlier and call the travel on LBJ and that would've negated the entire play. During the replay, you can clearly see LBJ travelling and taking 3 steps...BUT WE ARE NOW WITNESSES TO THE FAVORITISM THAT IS THE NBA AND LBJ HAS BEEN MARKETED AS JORDAN SO I CAN'T SAY I'M SURPRISED.
BTW, how many times have we actually seen refs go back and have an "instant replay" on last second shots to see if there was a foul? Is this the new LeBron rule?
