The fans' excitement or anger over Kimbo Slice being on The Ultimate Fighter 10 is surpassed only by the actual fighters on the show and Dana White. Everyone is fired up to take out the biggest name and Kimbo has an opportunity to land a huge deal if he wins the show. White confirmed that Kimbo's deal is unlike any other TUF contestant:

"He's got the same TUF deal. He's got a contract if he wins the show. If he makes it into the UFC his contract is different, a lot [expletive] different. And it's a good one. That's his carrot. If he can do this, he can make some real money."

Past TUF winners have received "six-figure" contracts but they usually run 6-10 fights. Rumors flew for the last eight months that there were big money offers on the table in Japan and boxing promoter Gary Shaw, Kimbo's former boss at EliteXC, was ready to make him a "big-time" boxer. White said there's no money in boxing unless you're at the top and that the people around Kimbo knew that (3:30 mark):

"People that are around Kimbo, I was really impressed with that too. Kimbo's manager is a sharp guy. Actually one of the best guys I've dealt with since I've been in this business. He's done a lot of things for this guy."

White also shot down the notion that Kimbo will be protected on the show to benefit ratings (7:05 mark):

"Kimbo is getting zero [expletive] special treatment. And on the flip side, I'm not after Kimbo. Let's make an example of this guy. Let's get his ass kicked. He's a contestant just like everybody else, coming on the show and trying to win."

White also said he believes that Kimbo is a real fighter (0:53 mark), he just doesn't know if he's an MMA fighter. Kimbo will not be fed a Tank Abbott or James Thompson, the cast has some serious fighters. White said he may have egg on his face when the whole thing is done. He said repeatedly in the past Kimbo sucks and couldn't win a season of TUF. But he's been wrong before. White thought Rashad Evans worst the heavyweight contestant on TUF 2. Evans eventually went onto win the show and UFC title.

I’m still not clear if Kimbo will receive a greater amount of money as an appearance fee, separate from either a contract or winning the show. The question was sidestepped both times it was asked. They asked the question twice, “will Kimbo get more money for just appearing on the show?” The answer, “he’ll get a better contract if he wins.”
To say, “He has the same TUF deal,” can be reasoned ten different ways, that’s why lawyers use so much paperwork. And it doesn’t mean Kimbo isn’t receiving a separate contract for an appearance fee, totally separate from a regular TUF contract he might have signed. He could have signed 4 different contracts just to get into that house, along with the regular generic TUF contract that everyone else has to sign.
Better journalism please… Mr. White must be extremely intimidating…

Let's see it. Kimbo shown he's an athlete. He's shown he's tough. He's shown he can get knocked out by Seth Petruzelli. He's been working with Bas Rutten who IS the real deal, so it should be interesting.

Affliction is a joke. Dont get me wrong, they put on great fights for the hardcore fans but it is essentially marketed as a "come pay $40 and watch Fedor fight." Until they can put on a show without Fedor and get decent numbers they will not be consider a real fight promotion in my eyes

Actually he is an athlete, he was on the pre-season squad for the miami dolphins. That is not the greatest thing an athlete can do, but it does take athleticism to get to that point. I'm sure there will be a lot of fighters like that on this season, guys who were NFL bound but then did not make it and now are trying to smash some face for a paycheck.

Im going to have to disagree with Mr White where he says that Kimbo is getting zero special treatment. Then why is there not a prelim fight to get into the house? Why after a couple seasons of this, and it being a good way to start the season, does Dana deicde to ditch it now that Kimbo is on the show? Hell I dont know maybe im looking at this the wrong way and being a conspiracy theorist.

Hack, first I'll state why Kimbo is an athlete, not the best athlete, but an athlete...
He attended college on a ATHLETIC scholarship, made it to the NFL (short lived and practice squad at that, but hey it's the NFL), he has been paid to perform as an athlete (a lot of $), has had deals with NIKE, he has been training for years now with an ex-world champion, is currently competing in athletic sports, and he is 6' 2" 230lbs with a six pack. So he is "no more an athlete than your typical backyard bum"? C'mon man, I don't know any back yard bums with that kinda resume. I'm not even a Kimbo fan, but to say he is not an athlete is pretty far out there.
Second, Mohammad Ali is 67 with a terminal disease, so no, calling Kimbo an athlete is in no way "like calling Mohammad Ali in his current state an athlete". One is currently sporting the resume above, the other is a disabled geriatric that is almost twice as old.
Third, I'll say this again, I'm not a Kimbo fan! Just calling a spade a sp... uh bad analogy... forget that last part, you know what I mean.

Dana couldn't find enough quality heavyweights to warrant a prelim to get into the house. Plus, the fighters that won those prelims were getting hurt and it effected there performance later on in the show. This is the road Kimbo should have gone through in the first place. He should never have been put into a main event headliner position without any previous experience. He will be facing real competition this time around. These guys will be bigger, stronger with better skills so he will be tested. I hope he loses in his first fight but anything can happen.

The UFC does pay better NUT when you factor in an average across the board. NO WAY NO HOW does a boxer make 400K in 3 months after only boxing for 2 years. YOu know it and I know it. Plus it is amazing how many places you have been and the people you know. YOU know boxers who didn't medal in the Olympics who Shaw gave 6 figure contracts to? YOU were in Bali or wherever it was when Faber got beat by a 12 year old, YOU were in Philly and saw Anderson Silva get his azz beat by 13 year old novice boxer. WOW dude you sure know a lot of people and have been lots of places. next to Nuts picture in his highschool yearbook has a caption "right place, right time".

Nutcracker: First off I LOVE how you call the guys on TUF "hacks" in your second post! TUF may be a comical reality show, but it has produced 3 UFC champs, and a top ten fighter in every wieght class.
NEXT:The UFC may not pay as much as the top 5-10 boxers make CURRENTLY, but @ the rate of boxing's decline you will see the flip flop of paychecks of champions soon enough. Chuck and Randy have made over 500K for past fights, and Im sure Brock gets close to that.
Who the hell even follows boxing anymore anyhow? After watching "The Golden Boy" duck and dance like a sissy 2 years ago for 75 bucks I will never pay for a "Boxing" match again. I may as well have wiped my ass with 1 dollar bills for 75 days than see that crap.

Would Dana White please start acting and speaking like a professional? If MMA is going to become a "big time" sport, White has to clean it up. I don't see Roger Goodell or David Stern dressing in a t-shirt and jeans and swearing every other sentence. Show some class. You have a billion dollar entertainment business and are a millionaire.
Cofield you are not a blogger. Either go back to school and learn how to write or please find a different job.

oh Great White, you are still so misguided and misinformed....just because an MMA fighter has only been training "MMA" for two years doesnt mean he hasnt been training/competing in BJJ, wrestling, kickboxing, etc for longer than that and getting paid crap, if anything, to do it....stop with this across the board s**t...all of these fighters are striving to be at the top...it is THE standard by which they are measured....and when you compare the pay of all of these top fighters, it isnt even close....Pacman made more than everyone on the last 3 UFC cards COMBINED in one fight and he didnt even get some silly KO of the Night bonus....so did Mayweather, Hatton, and De La Hoya....and Ricky and DLH arent even top fighters!...even if you take the average annual income for the top 25 fighters in each sport, averaged them, im betting that boxing would easily come out on top....easily....but thanks again for your ridiculous post filled with the baseless ramblings....and stop using your teeth, im starting to chafe
    .
.Michael O....they ARE hacks.....your 3 champs mentioned are Forrest, Rashad, and Matt Serra!!! and how many successful defenses do they have?...combined??....still counting???....and the fact that these hacks could even get title shots in that sport has got to say something about the quality of fighters in that sport as a whole....not to mention 3 fight hype brock lesnar....you keep holding your breath for the paychecks to flip flop too.....we will see what Mayweather and Marquez make in about a month...Cotto/Clottey....Mosely against whoever....Manny in his next fight....500k?? LMFAO....that may cover their expenses....Oscar dancing or the Spider dancing (for two cards in a row)?? ..either way your going to have alot of toilet paper....
    KIM-BO!!!.....KIM-BO!!!....KIM-BO!!!!!.....b**ch please....
