News of the Fedor Emelianenko signing filtered out around 12:20 p.m. ET. It's safe to say UFC president Dana White heard about it almost immediately even though he's dealing with business Abu Dhabi. Nice job by Strikeforce to prevent any leaks and spring this on us with zero warning. It's a great signing by Strikeforce. White worked hard and with a very open attitude on signing the world's No. 1 heavyweight but Scott Coker beat him to the punch:
"I'm in Abu Dhabi right now and my reaction is Fedor is a [expletive] joke," White told Cagewriter saying he was unavailable for Monday interview on ESPNRadio1100 at 2:40 p.m. ET. "[He] turns down a huge deal and the opportunity to face the best in the world to fight nobodies, for no money. Fedor is a [expletive]."
UPDATE: White followed up with a text at 5:32 p.m. ET:
"I feel sorry for the real fans! I wanted to make the deal but it takes two and it is VERY obvious Fedor doesn't want to fight the best and doesn't give a [expletive] about the fans."
Turnabout is fair play. Coker left the country to visit Italy two weeks ago and the UFC swooped in to close the Affliction deal and get control of 20-plus contracts. White leaves for the weekend to Abu Dhabi and Fedor is stolen from under his nose. White reportedly offered Fedor a six fight-$30 million deal. One has to wonder if White will continue to play nice with Coker and Strikeforce.

Wonder how Strikeforce will address this on the 15th. In-cage/satellite interview? Announce his opponent and fight date?
I'm not so sure this is a "great signing" for Strikeforce. That would be like saying it would have been a "great signing" for an XFL team to sign Peyton Manning at his going rate.
Actually...the USFL tried that 25 years ago getting Herschel Walker to try to compete with the NFL. We saw how that worked out.
Strikeforce could have kept gaining traction for a few years...realizing they can't compete with UFC right now, but gaining on them and building their brand. This seems like a very impatient move...and very unlike Strikeforce.

Well, Fedor would have been good for UFC, but in the long run, they will eventually get him. That is, if Fedor doesn't still have a problem with Dana White in what he perceives as disrespect.

I think Strikeforce is the joke, not Fedor. Giving one fighter's organization that much of your own which you've built up over the years is ludicrous. Fedor is great, but not that great. I will be more likely though to catch a Strikeforce event live.
The only thing this signing does is give cannon fodder to the useless debates over the pound for pound king. Fedor hasn't fought the best lately, but who of the new heavyweight crop is better than Fedor? I would like to see Fedor in the UFC, but it's not gonna happen any time soon.

Another misnomer is that UFC's HW division is lightyears better than StrikeForce. Is it better? Yes. However, take out Lesnar and Couture (their 2 biggest draws in the division) and there isn't much of a difference in quality.
UFC has: Nogueira (who is regressing and Fedor has beaten), CroCop (same as Nogueira), Mir, Kongo, Velasquez, Carwin, Herring (who Fedor also beat) and Gonzaga.
Strike Force has: Overeem, Werdum (who beat Gonzaga), Rogers, Buentello (likely) and Monson (likely).
I don't think that Carwin and Velasquez are that much better than Rogers.
Strike Force is willing to partner b/c they have done it before and b/c their brand isn't nearly as strong as UFC. I hope Dana takes the high road and doesn't trash Coker personally. Coker is one of the good guys in this business and he didn't screw anyone over.
I wanted Fedor in the megafight with Lesnar because the timing was perfect and the M-1 people prevented the deal. However, StrikeForce doesn't have "nobodies" for him to fight. Dream would literally have nobody for him to fight.

The keyboard warriors here that say that are the ones who are in fact scared.
So if you are going to talk trash about the man, at least do it in a way that makes sense.
If you want to say he is looking for lower quality competition to stack his record, fine.
But don't say he is Dodging Brock Lesnar because he is scared to get destroyed or the like.
You just appear to be an ignorant fool.

He did kind of trash talk Strikeforce just now: "fighting nobodies." But I don't think you'll ever hear Dana give Coker the kind of derision he gave Shaw and Atencio and the entire country of Japan.
