Player Notes
Doug Fister (elbow) will throw secondary pitches in a bullpen session later this week.

Advice: Fister had a light bullpen session on Monday where he threw only fastballs that he said "went as well as expected." He's now ready to mix in some breaking pitches and says the soreness in his pitching arm has "pretty much subsided completely." There's still no timetable for his return, but he's progressing.

Doug Fister (elbow) threw a 20-25 pitch, light bullpen session on Monday.

Advice: It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since being diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain over two weeks ago. The Nationals will continue to bring Fister along slowly, as there's no timetable for his return. He probably can't be counted on to contribute much before the All-Star break even if he progresses without any setbacks.

Doug Fister (elbow) will resume a throwing program on Wednesday.

Advice: He'll first play catch from 60 feet before progressing to long-toss and then a bullpen session. The Nationals aren't setting a timetable for his return, but obviously they'll be careful after Fister was diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain. "The longer he’s off, the longer it will take tot get back," manager Matt Williams said. "But if he feels okay, it can be a fairly aggressive program to get throwing. They’ll start him 60 [feet], get him long toss, he’ll do flat ground, he’ll do bullpen, and be ready to go. It’s unclear at this point, but if he gets back in there and starts throwing, it’s a good sign."

Doug Fister (forearm) said Sunday that he is feeling better and hopes to begin throwing soon.

Advice: Fister admitted that it's a slow process, noting, "The process of getting complete game ready is going to be a little bit, but I'm making strides every day." While it's a positive development, there is still no clear timetable for his return. Tanner Roark will occupy his spot in the rotation in the meantime.
