Player Notes
Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that Doug Fister (lat) is on pace to make his debut for the Nationals on May 7.

Advice: It's possible the exact date will be altered a bit, but that's the day that looks to make the most sense right now. Fister threw two innings Thursday in an extended spring training game and had "no issues," according to manager Matt Williams. "He felt good about it," Williams added. "Reports are his first inning was better than his second inning, which is a good sign." Fister will begin a once-every-five-days schedule and is on pace to make his season debut in three weeks.

Doug Fister (lat) threw two innings Thursday in an extended spring training game.

Advice: Fister threw a total of 28 pitches. He's expected to three innings next time out before going on a minor league rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, the hope is that he'll join Washington's rotation in about 20 days.

Doug Fister (lat) headed to extended spring training in Viera, Florida on Wednesday.

Advice: Fister will begin working on a five-day throwing schedule, beginning with two simulated innings on Thursday. He'll then throw three simulated innings five days after, and a rehab assignment could follow that workout. Fister should join the Nationals around early May and will be a front-line fantasy starter once he is activated.

Doug Fister (lat) threw 50 pitches Monday in another bullpen session.

Advice: Fister said he felt good and called it "another step in the right direction." He appears to be closing in on a minor league rehab assignment, setting up a return in early May if all goes well.

Doug Fister (lat) threw a successful 35-pitch bullpen session Friday.

Advice: He didn't throw breaking balls, but Fister felt good while throwing fastballs and changeups. He'll play catch again next before then throwing another bullpen session. He seems likely to be ready for a rehab assignment before the end of the month, with a return in early May looking likely if he can avoid setbacks.

Doug Fister (lat) has been cleared to begin throwing off a mound and will do so Friday or Saturday.

Advice: Fister had a good day of flat-ground throwing on Thursday afternoon, which Washington manager Matt Williams called a "good step." There is no official timetable yet for the right-hander's Nationals debut, but if he stays on track it should be sometime in early-to-mid May.
