Player Notes
Justin Upton homered for the second consecutive day, helping to power the Tigers to an 8-3 victory over the Royals in Friday's series-opener at Comerica Park.

Advice: The victory, the club's fifth straight, keeps the Tigers in the driver's seat for a wild card berth in the American League. Teammates Victor Martinez and Cameron Maybin also left the yard in the ballgame. Upton has been on an absolute tear since receiving three days off to clear his head last month, hitting .292 (31-for-106) with 14 homers and 35 RBI over his last 30 games.

Justin Upton hit his 26th homer and walked twice Thursday as the Tigers topped the Twins 9-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Advice: Upton has eight homers in September after not hitting more than five in any previous month. He's still not hitting for average at all, but the Tigers still have to be thrilled about the production.
