Player Notes
MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that the Braves are looking to package Chris Johnson with Justin Upton or Evan Gattis in possible trade scenarios.

Advice: A week ago, the Padres were a team that Bowman cited as being interested in Justin Upton. With their near-trades for Matt Kemp and Wil Myers, it appears unlikely that they would still be in the market for the outfielder. Bowman wrote that the Braves were holding court with five other teams. It would be palatable for the team if they could package Johnson or Gattis in with Upton, though it would obviously be tougher for them to complete a trade if they were attaching extra weight to the deal. The Braves are also reportedly looking to deal B.J. Upton.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that the Padres remain one of the team's pursuing Justin Upton.

Advice: The Pads are on the verge of acquiring Matt Kemp, but it appears they might not be done looking for offense. For what it's worth, Bowman adds that he "wouldn't be shocked" to see Kemp and Upton in the same outfield next season. The Giants, Rangers, Orioles and Royals are other teams known to have interest in Upton.

Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are interested in Justin Upton and Evan Gattis of the Braves.

Advice: However, the are understandably reluctant to give up Yordano Ventura or Danny Duffy, so a deal appears unlikely. The Royals might have to aim lower via trades or free agency.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Giants are discussing a trade with the Braves involving Justin Upton and Chris Johnson.

Advice: Nightengale cautions, however, that "neither club was overly optimistic a deal can be finalized." The deal is a fit for the Giants since they have a hole both in left field and at third base, but Nightengale says the Braves aren't sure the Giants have the prospects needed to make a trade work. Upton has drawn trade interest from a host of clubs this offseason.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Blue Jays, Indians, Brewers, and Cubs are on Justin Upton's no-trade list.

Advice: Players often include certain teams on their no-trade list as leverage, but it's worth noting that the Mariners were listed two years ago and Upton exercised his right to turn down a potential deal. The Indians have reportedly expressed interest in a trade for Upton this offseason, so it's something to keep in mind.

Orioles president of baseball operations Dan Duquette told MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli Monday that he has not talked to the Braves about Justin Upton.

Advice: MLB.com's Mark Bowman earlier Monday listed the O's as one of the teams showing interest in Upton, but Duquette just threw a wet blanket on the idea. The O's are in the market for outfield help and could come away with someone before the end of the Winter Meetings, but it doesn't sound like it will be Upton.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com writes that the Orioles, Rangers, and Padres continue to show interest in a trade for Braves outfielder Justin Upton.

Advice: However, Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote Monday morning that the Braves have yet to hear a satisfactory offer. The Indians have also been mentioned as a possibility, but they are likely out after acquiring Brandon Moss from the A's on Monday. Upton is owed $14.5 million next season before hitting free agency.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Braves have still not heard a deal they like for outfielder Justin Upton.

Advice: The Braves are prioritizing starting pitching and second base in a potential return package, but they haven't heard the right offer yet. Sherman hears that the Royals, Rangers, Padres, and Indians all remain interested. The Orioles have also been mentioned as a possibility in recent days.
