JaCoby Jones hit in face by pitch, leaves Detroit Tigers game

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Add JaCoby Jones to the latest list of injured Detroit Tigers. Jones was hit in the face by an 89 m.p.h. fastball from right-handed pitcher Justin Haley in the top of the third inning. Jones immediately ran down the line before stopping and was quickly met by head athletic trainer Kevin Rand. Jones seemed to be bleeding from his mouth, and walked off the field with assistance. Andrew Romine entered as a pinch runner and remained in the game as the centerfielder. The Tigers lost Miguel Cabrera to the 10-day disabled list Saturday afternoon due to a right groin strain. John Hicks was called up from Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers were already without shortstop Jose Iglesias (who is

Twins 6, Tigers 3: Santiago, Rosario halt skid at 4

For a good portion of the night, it looked like the Twins’ week-long frustration over wasting decent starts on a scuffling offense would continue. But that didn’t happen! Minnesota exploded for six runs in the 6th, chasing a clearly tired Justin Verlander and icing the cake with a majestic Eddie Rosario dong on their way to a 6-3 victory. The win halts the Twins’ 4-game losing streak and gets them back to .500. One of the major storylines of the season so far is the surprising competence of Hector Santiago. The New Little Einsteins’ decision to re-sign Santiago was met with...skepticism, to put it mildly. And yet, in this small sample-size world, he’s been far and away the 2nd-best Minnesota

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera suffers right groin injury, iffy for Saturday

Tigers All-Star got injured on a dive in the sixth inning Friday, he'll be re-evaluated today MINNEAPOLIS –  Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera suffered a right groin strain in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Twins. The injury occurred as Cabrera was diving for the ball on the two-run single by Twins DH Robbie Grossman in the sixth inning. Cabrera finished the inning but was pinch-hit for in the seventh. Cabrera hit three two-out singles before he was injured. He’ll be re-evaluated today. “Did it on the dive,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus explained of how Cabrera was injured. “The ball went in between he and (Ian) Kinsler that drove in a couple runs off of Grossman’s bat. That’s when he felt
