Player Notes
Miguel Sano went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Mariners.

Advice: The fourth inning blast provided the winning margin in a game in which the Twins prevailed despite generating only three hits all night. Sano has been nursing a back injury in recent weeks but seemed fine tonight. He is now batting .240 with 24 home runs and 61 RBI. The 23-year-old's .797 OPS pales in comparison to the .916 OPS he put up as a rookie last year.

Miguel Sano said Thursday that he plans to lose 20 pounds over the offseason.

Advice: Sano said the same thing heading into last offseason but wound up shedding only a few pounds prior to spring training. La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune notes that teammates "have had to stay on (Sano) about getting in his workouts" during the season. The 23-year-old does seem more committed to getting into better shape now after a disappointing season that's seen him bat just .236/.322/.459 while battling injuries. "My plans for next year are to work harder during the offseason, try to lose weight and come back next year and play the whole season at third base," Sano said.

Advice: Sano returned to the lineup for the day game after sitting out since last Monday due to soreness in his lower back. He should return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Mariners.

Miguel Sano (back) could be available to pinch-hit against the Tigers on Wednesday.

Advice: Sano is being held out of the lineup on Wednesday, but it appears he is very close to a return. He could possibly be back in action on a full-time basis on Thursday as the Twins wrap up their current four-game series with the Motor City Kitties.

Miguel Sano (back) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Sano's been dealing with a sore lower right back since September 12. While he has gone through an MRI which revealed no structural damage or evidence of an injury that might keep him out long-term, the Twins are playing it safe with their 23-year-old slugger. Joe Mauer is DHing in his place against the Tigers on Wednesday.
