Callaspo went 3-for-3 with a walk and run scored Sunday in his first game back from the 15-DL. Recommendation: He got the start at second, a position that had normally been manned by Esteban German since Mark Grudzielanek. German really hasn't been anything special this past month - hitting .220/.284/.339 in 59 August at-bats, so Callaspo should have an opportunity to earn a surprising number of at-bats in September. |

The Royals activated Callaspo on Saturday. The infielder went on the disabled list on June 28 for undisclosed medical reasons, one day after he was arrested for driving under the influence and spent several hours in a Kansas City jail. Advice: The switch-hitting Callaspo hit .290 in 42 games before going on the DL. He was 2-for-13 in three rehab games with Triple-A Omaha. He was immediately put in the starting lineup, playing second base against Detroit. "I know he's in shape. He's been playing for a little while in Omaha," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "The rehab assignment was supposed to last a little bit longer, but obviously the injury to (Alex) Gordon made necessary the quicker move back." |
