Player Notes
Mike Napoli (finger) is back in the starting lineup Thursday against the White Sox.

Advice: Napoli suffered a dislocated left ring finger Tuesday after jamming his hand against the second base bag on a head-first slide, but he managed to avoid a more serious injury. He'll bat cleanup Thursday against Chris Sale.

Mike Napoli (finger) is not in the Red Sox starting lineup Wednesday night against the White Sox.

Advice: Napoli suffered a dislocated left ring finger Tuesday after jamming his hand against the second base bag on a head-first slide. He's expected to avoid the disabled list but may need a few more days off. Daniel Nava is starting at first base Wednesday in Chicago.

Mike Napoli has been diagnosed with a dislocated left ring finger.

Advice: That much could be seen by looking at the gruesome picture of Napoli's finger after he slid into second base following a ninth-inning wild pitch. However, the good news is that X-rays on the finger came back negative, and the first baseman is being listed as day-to-day. Mike Carp will handle first if Napoli has to sit out a day or two.

Mike Napoli left Tuesday's game against the White Sox after appearing to dislocate his left ring finger on a slide into second base.

Advice: Napoli advanced to second on wild pitch, sliding in head-first but coming up with his finger pointing in the wrong direction. If it's just a dislocation, it's possible he can avoid the disabled list. If it's a fracture, a DL stint will obviously be required. Mike Carp would figure to take over at first base while Napoli is sidelined.
