Utley (knee) had two hitting sessions Thursday, but only briefly fielded ground balls, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Recommendation: Utley won't be ready to begin a rehab assignment until he is comfortable in the field. "I think it's a matter of him feeling like he's ready to go play in a game," manager Charlie Manuel said. "I think it's a matter of him being healthy enough and thinking that he's ready. I think we've been through what we went through with him last year and we definitely want to make sure that he's ready to play and that he can endure some of the pain or (have) no pain if possible."

2B Chase Utley took ground balls during batting practice for the fifth time in seven days. Utley, whose left knee has sidelined him for the first seven weeks of the season, will travel with the Phillies to St. Louis and doesn't have imminent plans to take his rehab to Clearwater, Fla., to begin playing in games. Utley was placed on the DL before the season began with chondromalacia in his left knee.
