Daryl Johnston refers to ‘Tavon Martin’ after Tavon Austin’s brilliant touchdown run

You can see how the mistake might happen. Same number of syllables. Tavon rhymes with Trayvon. George Zimmerman was back in the news this week.

Still, it was a tad jarring to hear Fox broadcaster Daryl Johnston refer to Tavon Austin as "Tavon Martin" following Austin's brilliant 65-yard touchdown run in Sunday's game between the St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears. Credit to Johnston for quickly correcting himself; we'll just assume he was as dazed by Austin's speed as the Bears defense seemed to be.

Austin finished the Rams' 42-21 win with the one 65-yard rush and two catches for 39 yards. He has three touchdowns in his past two games and, perhaps not coincidentally, the Rams are 2-0 over that span.

At 5-6, the Rams are starting to sniff around a playoff spot but securing one won't be easy. Their last five games are against four winning teams (at Niners, at Cardinals, Saints, at Seahawks) plus a Buccaneers team that has won three straight.
