But there's all this talk out there that Jerry Jones is enamored with Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, and the fact that Barber isn't yet signed seems to back that up. And if that is the case, and the Cowboys would trade up to get McFadden while letting Barber walk, I'd have to ask:
What do the Cowboys have against winning?
There's talk here (and the talk is rather angry, which is understandable, since it's a Cowboys blog) that the Titans, when Barber gets his restricted free-agent tender, would be glad to step in, give Barber a long-term contract, and hand over 1st and 3rd round picks for him, too.
Granted, it's from someone on a message board, and might be completely made up, but that's beside the point. If it's not the Titans, someone will cough up that much for Barber.
Why? Because Barber's like a coked-out wildebeest with the football. His yardage numbers won't blow you away, but that's because he has to split time with Julius Jones (for some reason). He gets 4.8 yards per carry, but it's a punishing 4.8. You don't tackle Marion Barber without feeling pain. He fumbled once in 204 carries this year, and he's a banshee in the redzone.
And the Cowboys would let that go for an unproven rookie who they'd have to pay big money right out of the gate, without proving a thing. And for what it might be worth, Mike Mayock doesn't even think so highly of him.
