San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested Friday morning at 7 a.m. for suspicion of DUI. He was reported as the driver of the vehicle in a single-car accident, with no injuries reported, according to CSNBayArea.com.
Smith failed a breath-alcohol test on the scene and was booked into Santa Clara County jail. The 49ers did not immediately comment on the incident.

Smith, one of the NFL's best pass rushers, has been embroiled in a slew of odd off-field incidents in recent years. He previously was arrested on DUI charges in 2012 in Miami Beach following his rookie NFL season, and was the passenger in a car that was in a serious accident as the driver aimed to avoid hitting a deer.
Smith also has been named in a lawsuit (along with former teammate Delanie Walker) that accused them of firing weapons at a house party, which resulted in Ronndale Esporlas, who filed the suit, getting shot. Smith also reportedly was stabbed at the same party, attempting to break up a fight, or multiple fights.
This is sobering news for the 49ers and Smith. His on-field performance — with another two sacks in Week 2 — suggests he could be among the highest-paid defenders in the NFL and a building block on the team for many years to come. But his off-field behavior has to seriously concern the 49ers' brass right now.
