We miss you, Ricky Williams.
The colorful, spiritual and Bohemian running back might never have quite filled his massive potential as the former Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 pick in the draft, but he left an indelible mark in our minds and hearts.
Williams, who has spoken openly about his views on marijuana (he's in favor of it), spoke recently with Campus Insiders and had some fascinating things to say on the topic. Asked if pot slowed him down from achieving his highest level as a player, Williams — now a running backs coach for University of the Incarnate Word, an FCS school — disagreed with that assertion:
“I don’t agree that it was an Achilles heel, I kind of think it was more like spinach for Popeye,” Williams said.
Does that mean he had joints stashed on the sideline? After all, Popeye was known for popping a can of the leafy green when he was in the tightest of situations, often right before the action became too tough to deal with.
With the childlike Williams, anything is possible. After all, he admitted this week that his job has him sleeping in a college dormitory, on Spider-Man sheets and an Avengers comforter, per USA Today's For The Win blog.
There's no known video of Williams actually smoking the stuff, but we now have plenty of evidence he has done it plenty. And now we also know the why.
