There are rumors the Miami Dolphins are making a play for receiver Joe Horn because, well, he's available. Agent Ralph Vitolo told the Miami Herald that he has indeed called the Dolphins to see if they're interested. But he also says as of 6:30 Tuesday evening, the Dolphins had not returned his phone call.

Vitolo said the Tennessee Titans have shown the most interest in Horn so far and that, "Dallas is also a big possible landing site for Joe."

Horn has narrowed his list of teams he would play for to seven teams and although Vitolo tells me the Dolphins are one of those that I should "stay tuned" to see what transpires, it seems like a stretch for the Dolphins to make a strong play for the 36-year-old Horn. But the truth is the receivers have recovered a little since their difficult start to training camp. They are catching the ball better and, as I reported in an earlier blog post, the coaching staff is thinking Derek Hagan and Ted Ginn Jr. will be the starting duo.

The rest of the receivers corps is still a work in progress but at least the coaches have seen some progress. And that is pleasing to them.

That doesn't mean the Dolphins have settled on keeping their current group of receivers. The Dolphins, with the first waiver claim early this season, will use that on some receivers if they believe one or more guys other teams put on the street are better than the guys they currently have in their locker room.

I recall JJ saying emphatically that he was not interested in Joe Horn right before they cut Glenn. He is a veteran and could provide some leadership but his numbers aren't anything stellar...in his last 35 games in 3 years, he has 113 receptions, 1576 yards and 6 TD's...If Dallas was going to sign him at a bargain basement price like they got Tank and Pac then I say go for it...I am sure being in DC would not only make him look like a better player but will also give him the opportunity to chase the ever elusive championship ring. JJ is going to do all that he can to get the Boys in a position to make a SB run and if Horn fits into the plan or enhances the chances (I am a poet and didn't even know it!) you best believe Horn will be a Cowboy...YEE-HAW!

He'll land somewhere. Maybe in dallas, I'm not sure that he is an upgrade to crayton. He is a one and done player. Certianly not a long term solution. Sign him for vet, mini and see what he can do. Facing single coverage he could be productive. The cowboys are still hoping to get A. Boldin out of Arizona.

Hey D4L,(g'mornin lady) they can sign him for vet mini, becuz he is still getting 2.5 mil from atlanta. He wants to go to a contender. He was on Michael Irvin's radio show yesterday, basically campaigning for the job. I think he could be effective with T.O. on the other side drawing double. He could be a Harper like receiver. I think Crayton would enjoy improvement too in 3 wr sets.

Good morning the J! Will you be implementing your 2-1 blitz package today?
To be completely honest I wouldn't be opposed to having him as a Cowboy. We are really in need of someone to compliment Owens especially a veteran. I am thinking him as an addition would also enhance the younger guys' knowledge of the game. It is also a positive to sign a player who is "campaigning for a job". Have you noticed as the rest of the world hates all these players are vying for a position in Dallas? It amuses me that these haters keep hating and so many available players are praying to catch JJ's eye...it is obvious that active players WANT to play for DC so there is one more reason to call them America's Team. HATE ON HATERS!

Nah D4L, it was no fun, no matter how dumb the stuff i said was people just thought I was a real Giant fan. The Jesus will just be himself today. Everybody at one point in their lives has wanted to be a Cowboy. I would much rather have Boldin though, and the way things are looking in AZ it could happen, not sure what we would have to give up to get him. Most likely a 1 and a 3. It would be worth it.

I dont want Horn to come to Dallas. I'd rather see Miles Austin/Sam Hurd develop and get playing time instead of Joe Horn, who probably wont be playing next year.

I am not understanding such opposition to Horn...ok he isn't the greatest, he is old BUT we certainly don't have to waste a 1 AND a 3 on him, we DO have a salary cap (I am not sure how much $ is available but I would hate to see us pick up another large salary and end up being the Yankees of football more so then what we currently are. You can't buy a championship.) and just like someone was saying yesterday about Tank and Thomas he is at the end of his career looking for a ring...that will make anyone work harder. Also with the talent on the team he could actually be a better player than what his numbers indicate...He does has 4 seasons in his career where he posted 1,000+ yards...one being in 04 which granted was 4 years ago but that just means to me his IS capable of putting up the #s DC needs opposite TO...

If this is actually true, the fact that the Cowboys would even consider signing this washout is indicative of how they really feel about their young WR's... And that is... They're not ready to seriously contribute yet.

1 and a 3 for A. Boldin out of AZ. He wants out of AZ and they know he's a holdout threat. Jerry Will pay the man. And Bolding is Young and could be the T.O. successor. We have room under the cap and our 1 pick will most like be very late in first round anyway.

These are the other good things I see about signing him: His #'s are better in the first half of games than the second, he has 9 career fumbles (which indicates to me that he is old but he has good hands - something we sure could have used last season), he averages 9 yards each time he has the ball (you only need 10 yards for a first), he has been to the Pro Bowl 4 times and he has 58 career TD's...also I might add that being cut from the Falcons and being so near to the end of his career he should be a cost effective pick up...how bad could signing him be?

I dont hate the move, I just dont think horn is that bright. I heard him speak on Mike's show yesterday... he sounded ignorant. Besides Boldin is a long term solution. They didn't cut Horn he asked for a release becuz he wanted to play with Vick and when Vick got pinched he figured the Falcons were toast and he's wanted out ever since.
