Shutdown Corner - NFL

Not counting Cleveland's abysmal quarterback play (we've already covered that) and the Redskins' historically bad first half (we'll do that later), here are a few of the least-impressive performances of Week 3:

1. Seattle's marketing department. Okay, guys. We know you also have a controlling interest in the Seattle Sounders soccer team, and that the Sounders' jerseys are bright, day-glo green. This does not mean that putting your NFL team in those same colors is a good idea. Unless you're trying to become the NFL's version of the Oregon Ducks, take a pass on the alternate jerseys, O Great Marketing Gurus. Home and away are quite enough.

2. Tampa Bay's offense. Giving up five passing touchdowns of more than 30 yards in their first two games was bad enough, but it turns out that the Bucs' real problem is their offense. Against the Giants in a 24-0 whitewashing, starting quarterback Byron Leftwich(notes) went 7 of 16 for 26 (!) yards and a pick. The Bucs picked up five first downs in the entire game. Backup quarterback Josh Johnson(notes) led the team in rushing with 15 yards on one carry – Cadillac Williams had eight yards on two carries. They were 0-for-9 in third-down conversions, and lost the time of possession battle, 16:22 to 43:38.

3. Titans quarterback Kerry Collins(notes). The Jets' defense has been deadly against quarterbacks this season, but that's no excuse for the way Collins went out of this game. The veteran failed to complete his last 13 passes, and went 15 of 37 overall, as the Titans dropped to 0-3 with a 24-17 loss to Rex Ryan's team.

4. Patriots receiver Joey Galloway(notes). Galloway's been off-target with Tom Brady(notes) all season; he dropped one ball in the end zone and stepped out of bounds before a catch on another. It's very unusual for a receiver to be so uncoordinated with Brady – generally guys come to the Patriots and look as good as they ever have – but between Brady's misfires and miscommunication between the quarterback and his receiver, Galloway leaves too many points on the field.

5. Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell(notes). 12 of 21 for 61 yards and two interceptions. Lather, rinse, repeat.

As for the Jerseys. I like hoe oregon wears different jerseys almost every week, even if this last Saturday had to be the worst ones yet.. I dont even mind the ones Seattle wore. What really chaps my ass is these teams wearing their away jerseys at home!! WTF stop being a bunch of [profane], and thinking that it actually give you an advantage because the other team is hotter or might sweat more.. Your in the nfl for crying out loud if you cant play in heat you shouldn't be in the league.. Especially when I see New Orleans, or San Diego wearing away jerseys at home. The Saints play in a air conditioned dome and have some of the best home and alternate jerseys in the league and there wearing their road jerseys! The only team allowed to do that is Dallas, or if you want to wear the whites at home thats fine make them your home jerseys be like dallas and end up wearing the roadies 13 or so games a year. But don't wear them because its hot. Thats the stupidest thing Ive seen, I started to really notice last year and its gettin much worse this year.. Its getting really pathetic.. MAN UP!

I agree with #2 - but they need to change the helmet and pants' color. It would be cool though if they did come out like the Ducks though. lol.
JaMarcus Russell should have never sat out. A whole year wasted. And now look at Michael Craptree.

I dig the electric lime green, and I'm no SeaChicken fan. But whenever a team steps out of the "now we have black uni's so we look badass" mindset and tries something new, I like it. Except for those orange Bucs uniforms from the 70's those were an eyesore. The lime green should be a staple for the hawks, and the Chargers Powder Blues should be their standard... one of the best in sports.

Oh, and the Niners went 0-10 on 3rd down today. That should warrant a mention of week three horrible-ness, along with their last play defense, which had 5 guys in the middle of the field and only 2 guys covering the sidelines and no safety along the goal line to prevent the Vikings WR from getting behind them......
Also, Leftwich only had 22 yards passing. Cmon, get your facts straight homie :P

I have to disagree with you, my wife and I both liked the jerseys....very original, now if you were to focus on the Jet's hideous throwbacks that they keep wearing I would agree with you!

Kerry Collins has had it. Jeff Fisher has had it, too. Mouton puts five, count em, five kicks on the carpet, 2 resulting in td's, and he STILL under balls. Unf****** believable. 0-13 on passing is also unforgivable. Plus two picks that Stevie Wonder could catch, and misses that went all the way from Jersey to Heinz field. Give VY a chance, can't do any worse. This is proving the definition of insanity! Mouton, you should quit the NFL while you still have a shred of dignity. You too, Kerry. And take Fish with you. He's freakin' lost it!

The jersey's are cool! Maybe you better change your own pic, before trying to pretend you know style. Day-glo is back.

Looks like the short-lived era of winning for Seattle is truly over. Glad I didn't pay for the Direct TV Season Ticket! I've always hated the Cowboys, but not much to talk about living here in Texas when your team is the Seahawks these days.
I wonder if they are playing for another early round draft pick? Maybe the players were revolting against the jerseys and decided to be revolting.......

Wonder if the Raiders could get Garcia back? "Russell's young,he's got all the tools,he'll be great"! Yeah right! I'd like to see him and Al Davis both GONE !!! Hell, what about Jeff George,Vince Evans,Marc Wilson,Marinovich,Billy Joe Tolliver or any of the other sorry assed qbs that Al's had in the past !?!? They all sucked too,but at least they did,nt break the bank.....Russell has the ability, but lacks the work ethic and intelligence. He's either too stupid or to lazy to learn how to read coverages. And all the missed throws of 5 to 15 yards to open recievers? Well .......,um,uh,well,I.....,hmmm....,not really sure how to explain those. Except that maybe, just maybe, he SUCKS and will be remembered as one of the biggest BUSTS with the biggest, fat ass in NFL history....

NO WAY the Titans loss should on Collin's head... It should be on the receivers hands I watched the game and I would say that 10 of those 13 incomplete passes hit the receivers square in the hands and probably 5 of those passes they were wide open for 1st downs. Tennessee wins easy if it wasn't for them hands of stone and that kat that kept fumbling the punt returns. It was a bad day for tennessee and all but thats why you play the game... hate they lost but maybe we can salvage the season better start playing for wildcard

What game were you watching buckaroo?? Kerry is even more inaccurate than last year! Several of his throws looked like shanked punts! Yeah, the receivers missed a few, Gage can drop really easy ones, but geez! 0-13 is not the receiver's fault! And his two picks were putrid -he threw into triple and then quadruple, that's 4 defenders!, coverage, outside the pocket, where he sucks a**. Him and Mouton made this look like the early 80's Oilers, the perrenial 3-13 team. I love this team, grew up watching them as the Oilers here in Houston and stayed so loyal after they left that now I go to LP field each year to watch them play the Texans live. I catch a lot of heat in Houston for doing this out of loyalty to the franchise, and damn it, I deserve better than Kerry Chug-A-Lug Collins and Fish making decisions like an Easter Seals child! I've put up with a lot for 32 years watching them, and my patience is almost out. We're behind Detroit! DETROIT!

if russel can get paid millions to complete less than 40% of his passes i should try out for the raiders. they'd only have to pay me minimum and i would have roughly the same impact
