Red Sox acquire Beato from Mets

Right-hander Pedro Beato was acquired by the Red Sox from the Mets to complete the trade that sent catcher Kelly Shoppach to New York on Tuesday. Beato was optioned to Class AAA Pawtucket.

The Red Sox moved right-hander Scott Atchison to the 60-day disabled list to create room for Beato on the 40-man roster. Beato, 25, had a 10.38 ERA with five strikeouts in seven appearances with the Mets this season. However, all five of the earned runs he allowed came in just two appearances.

Beato was also 4-4 with a 4.14 ERA in 24 appearances for Class AAA Buffalo this season.
