Check your pocket, Eddie ...

According to sources familiar with the situation (see: Majority, Unsilent), the Washington Wizards have relieved Eddie Jordan of his coaching duties. Team President Ernie Grunfeld handed E.J. his pink slip in a meeting this morning. (And you thought your Monday sucked.)
In five full seasons Jordan guided the Wizards to four playoff appearances, including a second round appearance in 2005. In each of the last two seasons the Wizards made the playoffs despite injuries to every single player on their roster.
Ivan Carter of the Washington Post reports that Ed Tapscott, who had carried the title of Director of Player Development but traveled with the team and essentially served as an extra assistant coach, will take over coaching duties — and the sexy 1-10 record — starting with a practice that will begin in about, oh, 40 minutes or so.
Good luck, Ed.

This is sad, I liked Eddie, and he should be commended for getting as much mileage out of this team as he did. Grunfeld and Wiz management should take a nice long look at the franchise they share the Phone Booth with, they could learn a thing or two.

For those who think he shouldn't have been fired what would it take a 20 - 62 season. The coach had no fire and his players had no fire.
Avery Johnson would be a great fit for the team...at least they will attempt to play defense and get out of that silly Princeton offense.

His rotations this season never made much sense, which is somewhat understandable since certain players aren't contributing at the level they were expected to, but he'll sit players for three quarters, then use them to start the 4th, or put players in for part of the 1st quarter then all of the 2nd, and have them play well, then not go to them again until 5 minutes are left in the game. At one point against the Knicks, the lineup on the floor was Thomas-Songaila-McGuire-Stevenson-Dixon, which should only be watched as one views a solar eclipse.
Was the Wizards' record entirely EJ's fault? No. McGee is still developing, Blatche has been inconsistent, and it would be charitable to call Thomas' play bad. But watching the team night in and night out, there certainly were decisions EJ made that made it harder to win.
