Source: Cubs deal for Rockies' Baker

The Chicago Cubs have acquired Jeff Baker(notes) from the Colorado Rockies, according to a source close to the club.

It is unclear who the Rockies will receive in return for Baker or the Cubs' plans for him.

Baker, an infielder, went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 27 and was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 24. He began a minor league rehab assignment June 19.

To not know who Baker was traded for is no surprise considering Baker isn't any good. I'm sure when the Rockies weren't looking, he sneaked out the door for Chicago...and they won't raise a fuss. He won't make up for DeRosa.

He could be crippled and still be a better option than Aaron Miles.

Pinella is the problem, he's turning them into the Devil Rays of old, perennial Losers. He can't coach, he can't manage and he can't win games. Typically and consistently outcoached by the better managers in the league. Get rid of him and the Cubs have enough talent to win.

While Jim Hendry was once a good GM, the last 2 yrs he has made some terrible trades. Does he want out of Chicago? At this rate the Cubs will not be contenders this yr.

#2 - Seriously, people don't care. This is a meaningless trade. Piniella will probably never know this guy's name. He'll see him around the clubhouse and just say, "Hey uhh, hey.. uhh.. YOU! Get in my office!"

so frustrating to see the cubs make dumb moves, first it was letting wood go eventhough he is willing to take pay cut, next trading Jason marquis he already won 10 games, third trading derosa who loves playing in chicago, to make room for hall of fame wanna be the great Milton Bradley. now this, they are not going win any world series in the next couple of years, i would rather see cubs this way rather than go to the playoffs and get swept in the first round.

There is no doubt whatsover that Baker will help the Cubs to finish in third place in the division instead of fourth. Cubs fans, celebrate your overpaid, overrated team that is terrible and will not win a World Series in your lifetime if you are over the age of 5

Baker will be a decent guy to have for depth (.270 12 HRs 50 RBIs in under 300 ABs last season) Besides anyone is better than Aaron Miles....
Look for Hendry to make an impact deal by the deadline.

Wow, Jason R, angry much? And chicago, the Marquis deal was to make room for Bradley because they couldn't afford both. Marquis, if pitching here, would be 4-2 at best for the lack of hitting. So yeah, it was a bum deal but not for losing Marquis. They need to lose Soriano and Bradley badly, they are a huge drag on the team, but are paying them way too much to just release. Kind of a bummer, but yeah, I think we've seen the last year for Hendry at this point. He's tried, but none of his deals seem to work out very well (although Fonzy wasn't a Hendry deal to be fair). Pry another wait till next year for the North Siders, but at least we can still go to games with 40K of our closest friends for a beer. How many other clubs can say that?

As a Rockies fan, I can tell you that you Cubs fans will like Baker. He plays hard, can move around, and really hits the ball. He isn't Mark DeRosa, but you may find yourselves pleasantly surprised. Honestly, I am a little shocked the Rockies traded him and kept Quintinalla around. Maybe they have something else going on?
