The Boston Red Sox would love to get Toronto Maple Leafs ace Roy Halladay(notes) on their team but the team is apparently feeling like the Jays want way too much from them to have any real deal happen, according to the Boston Globe. The Sox don't want to give up both pitcher Clay Buchholz(notes) and top prospect Casey Kelly in one deal.
Halladay will turn 33 next year and wants a long-term contract extension from whatever team he goes to next season. Folks at the Globe are saying that it is likely Halladay will end up in Toronto at the start of next season if the Jays don't adjust expectations. The theory at the Globe is that Boston isn't going to worry so much about Halladay and concentrate now on getting John Lackey(notes) and trading Buckholz for a "young hitter."
Halladay has apparently told the Blue Jays that he would accept a deal to the New York Yankees, but won't waive his no-trade clause to go to the Texas Rangers or Minnesota Twins. With every big name on the block, there is always a time when it just feels inevitable that he'll end up with the Yanks.
