Player Notes
Matt Adams is not in Sunday's lineup after aggravating his left oblique issue Saturday.

Advice: We figured something was up when he wasn't in Sunday's lineup against a right-hander. Adams first tweaked the oblique a week and a half ago but returned after missing just two games. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined this time. Daniel Descalso is at first base Sunday, and he could share time there with Xavier Scruggs while Adams is out.

Matt Adams is not in the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He also sat out Friday's game, but that was against a lefty. With the Cards facing a righty Sunday, you have to wonder if Adams' oblique might be an issue again. Daniel Descalso is getting the nod at first base Sunday.

Matt Adams is not in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

Advice: The Cards are stacking righties versus southpaw Jorge De La Rosa, as Kolten Wong and Oscar Taveras are also sitting out. Xavier Scruggs is at first base, Mark Ellis is at second and Randal Grichuk is in right field.

Matt Adams' 15th homer of the year was a three-run shot off the Reds' Logan Ondrusek on Monday.

Advice: Ondrusek had just entered the game as an injury replacement for Pedro Villarreal. A left-hander would have been a better play for the Reds, but Bryan Price had already used his two lefties not named Aroldis Chapman. Adams' homer was just his fourth in 173 at-bats during the second half.

Matt Adams (oblique) is in the Cardinals starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: He's back in his customary cleanup spot in manager Mike Matheny's lineup. Adams was forced to miss the previous two games due to a strained oblique. He's having a nice season at the dish, slashing .292/.321/.460 with 13 homers and 57 RBI in his 463 at-bats.
