Player Notes
Rangers prospect 3B Joey Gallo went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Sunday for Double-A Frisco.

Advice: The home run was Gallo's 40th of the season, pushing him back into a tie with Kris Bryant for the Minor League lead. The 20-year-old slugger has scuffled in August, with a .196/.293/.412 batting line, three home runs and 20 strikeouts in 13 games, but he had a strong three-game weekend series against Tulsa with a pair of home runs, five runs scored and a walk in each game. On the season, Gallo is batting .281/.401/.642 with 40 home runs, 19 doubles, 98 RBI, 92 runs, while his respective 33.3% and 16.1% strikeout and walk rates represent improvements compared to his 2013 full-season debut.

Rangers third base prospect Joey Gallo went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk for Double-A Frisco on Saturday.

Advice: Gallo continues to hit for power, but he has struggled in Double-A, hitting just .200/.292/.435 over his last 31 games and .244/.336/.550 during his 56 games in Double-A. The more salient concern is Gallo's spiking strike out rate. After striking out 37.0 percent of the time in Low-A in 2013, he improved his rate to 26.0 percent in with High-A Myrtle Beach. During his time with Double-A Frisco, his rate has increased to 40.6 percent (97 strikeouts in 239 plate appearances). While Gallo is a top prospect, his strikeouts may cause the prospect hype train to pump the brakes a little bit. He should be in the majors toward the end of 2015.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said in a radio interview on SiriusXM Sunday that third base prospect Joey Gallo will not be promoted this season.

Advice: It's not a surprise. Gallo has had a fantastic year, batting .289/.409/.651 with 38 homers and 95 RBI between High- and Double-A. He still needs some refinement at the plate, though, and there's no reason for the out-of-contention Rangers to push him. Daniels did add that he expects the 20-year-old in the majors next season.
