Player Notes
Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) could begin playing catch early next week.

Advice: Alvarez landed on the disabled list this week with right shoulder inflammation, but the Marlins are hopeful that he might not have to miss much more than the minimum. David Phelps will take his spot in the rotation for now.

MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the "general feeling" is that Henderson Alvarez's right shoulder injury is not considered serious.

Advice: The Marlins haven't officially revealed what an MRI of Alvarez's shoulder revealed, but it sounds like it was just inflammation. Frisaro says the righty could be sidelined for "a month or less, maybe even close to 15 days." It's obviously a big relief for the Marlins, as there had seemed to be a high level of concern. David Phelps will take Alvarez's spot in the rotation.

Marlins placed RHP Henderson Alvarez on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.

Advice: It's a big blow to the Marlins. Last season, Alvarez posted a 2.65 ERA over 187 innings. An MRI was inconclusive, but you can expect the Marlins to be careful with the 25-year-old starter. No timetable has been set for his return, as there is some degree of uncertainty as to how severe the injury might be.

According to the Miami Harold's Clark Spencer, Henderson Alvarez is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.

Advice: Spencer's source said that the result of the MRI was inconclusive, so the severity of the injury is still unknown. The injury concern cropped up following Alvarez's start against the Rays. In that outing, he surrendered four runs in five innings. Alvarez will most likely undergo further tests and be reevaluated before a future rehab plan is set in place.

According to Fox Sports' Jon Morosi, the Marlins are more concerned with Henderson Alvarez's shoulder than his elbow

Advice: Alvarez will undergo an MRI on Monday. Most of the focus after Sunday's game against the Rays revolved around a potential elbow issue, but there's apparently concern a greater concern about the shoulder within the team. The ace right-hander doesn't have a history of arm injuries. Shoulder or elbow, Alvarez's status moving forward will become more clear following the results of the MRI.

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that Henderson Alvarez is heading for an MRI on his right elbow.

Advice: The Marlins' ace has never dealt with elbow issues in his past, but it's certainly discouraging news after he picked up his second loss of the season against the Rays on Saturday. More should be known on his status after the exam, but fantasy owners should have an alternative option ready in the event that Alvarez can't make his next scheduled start.

Henderson Alvarez surrendered four runs in five innings en route to his second loss in Sunday's start against the Rays.

Advice: David DeJesus broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with a three-run home run off of Alvarez. On the afternoon, Alvarez yielded seven hits, walked one, and struck out three. Alvarez took the loss despite a strong 2015 debut against the Braves on Opening Day and is now 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in his first two starts. He'll try to improve in his next outing at Citi Field against the Mets.
