Player Notes
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said Taijuan Walker will be shut down for two weeks with a right shoulder impingement.

Advice: Walker was scratched from his scheduled rehab start Tuesday due to the setback. It was supposed to be the final rehab start before he rejoined the big club, but that's gone by the wayside. Even when he does resume throwing, he'll need to build his arm strength back up before being recalled. At this point, his return date is up in the air.

Taijuan Walker was scratched from Tuesday's rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma due to stiffness in his throwing shoulder.

Advice: Uh oh. Walker had trouble loosening up in the bullpen prior to the game, which in and of itself doesn't sound too bad, but it is when you consider he's already had numerous starts and stops during his recovery. Tuesday's outing was supposed to be Walker's final rehab start before rejoining the rotation, but obviously that's not going to happen now. He'll be re-evaluated Wednesday.

Taijuan Walker (shoulder) will make another rehab start next week at Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Walker struck out 10 batters over five scoreless innings at Double-A Jackson on Wednesday and the thought was that it was going to be his final rehab start. But the Mariners don't want to rush their top pitching prospect. "He needs to continue to get stronger," manager Lloyd McClendon said Saturday. "He needs to continue to command all of his pitches. He's progressing well. We're very pleased with where he is at this point."

Taijuan Walker (shoulder) struck out 10 hitters over five scoreless innings in a rehab start with Double-A Jackson on Wednesday.

Advice: Walker needed 84 pitches to get through five, giving up just three hits and a walk. With James Paxton hitting the shelf due to a strained left lat, it may have been Walker's last rehab start before rejoining the Mariners. The right-hander needed a few extra weeks after shoulder inflammation sidelined him in spring, but he appears to be right and should be owned in all leagues in advance of his 2014 debut.
