Player Notes
Nick Castellanos homered for the second consecutive game on Sunday as the Tigers fell to the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: His fifth inning solo shot off Eduardo Rodriguez accounted for the entirety of the Tigers offense in this one. That makes four home runs in six games for the 23-year-old. He has broken out in a big way in the month of July, hitting (22-for-76) with six homers and 19 RBI.

Nick Castellanos finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Castellanos hit an RBI ground-rule double in the top of the fourth inning and a solo shot in the top of the sixth. He's shown some signs of life lately, but the 23-year-old third baseman still owns an ugly .245/.294/.393 overall batting line this season. Maybe he can put it all together down the stretch.

Nick Castellanos swatted a grand slam in an eight-run third inning as the Tigers fended off the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos got the ball rolling, clearing the bases with a big fly off of Mike Montgomery in what turned out to be an eight-run third inning. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk on the night. Castellanos also homered on Tuesday, giving him eight on the year along with 43 RBI and a .248/.297/.389 batting line.

Nick Castellanos (face, finger) is in the Tigers' starting lineup Monday versus the Mariners.

Advice: Castellanos suffered a bruised cheek and a hyperextended ring finger when he got struck with a bad hop at third base on Sunday against the Orioles, but the young third baseman managed to avoid serious injury. Castellanos is starting at third base and batting seventh in Monday's series opener against Seattle left-hander J.A. Happ.

Nick Castellanos also hyper-extended his ring finger when taking a ball off his cheek during Sunday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: The third baseman believes that the finger issue will affect him more than the contusion to his cheek bone. There's a good chance that he'll be forced to miss a couple of games, with Andrew Romine the likely beneficiary in terms of playing time.

Nick Castellanos left Sunday's game against the Orioles after a hopper caught him in the cheek area.

Advice: It looked a little scary, but Castellanos walked off under his own power and appeared to be alright. The Tigers still figure to put him through concussion tests.

Nick Castellanos is not in the Tigers' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Castellanos was riding a hot streak prior to the All-Star break but went hitless in his first two games of the second half. Andrew Romine is handling third base Sunday.
