Player Notes
Jason Kipnis hit a two-run home run, his first of spring, in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Brewers.

Advice: Kipnis has been sidelined by back spasms recently, but he's back and showed no signs of lingering issues Saturday. The second baseman hit a two-run shot off Brewers starter Wily Peralta in the third inning. He finished 1-for-3 in the game. Assuming he stays feeling alright, Kipnis should be just fine for Opening Day.

Jason Kipnis (back) returned to Cactus League play on Thursday.

Advice: Kipnis singled in his first at-bat and also made a diving play in the field. Most importantly, he didn't have any issues with his back. The second baseman got a late start while working his way back from finger surgery and also missed over a week with back spasms, but he fully expects to be fine for Opening Day. "Some guys need 30 at-bats, some guys need 80 at-bats," said Kipnis. "If you're going good, you want to get going faster. I'm feeling good at the plate so I'm ready to start whenever we get there. If I get 20 or 30 more at-bats, that will be great for me."

Jason Kipnis (back) could get into a Cactus League game Thursday.

Advice: "The plan is, if he feels good, we'll play him tomorrow," Indians manager Terry Francona said Wednesday. "But, you want to kind of reserve the right to [change your mind], if he needs a day. But, I think all signs are pointing that he was moving around pretty good." Kipnis played in a minor league game Wednesday and came out of it feeling good. He's been sidelined for over a week with back spasms but should still be good to go for Opening Day.

Jason Kipnis (back) missed a fifth straight Cactus League game Monday and has yet to be cleared for baseball activities.

Advice: Kipnis is nursing a back issue and has been limited to indoor exercises to this point. There's been no indication to this point that the ailment could affect his availability for Opening Day, but Kipnis has been limited to just 22 plate appearances this spring due to his recovery from finger surgery and now the back issue.

Jason Kipnis will be sidelined for the remainder of the weekend due to back spasms.

Advice: Kipnis was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup and was held out on Friday as well. The Indians aren't yet concerned that the injury will effect his availability for the start of the regular season. He will receive extra at-bats in minor league contests next week provided the issue clears up.

Jason Kipnis was scratched from Thursday's game versus the Mariners with mid-back spasms.

Advice: It's not clear at this point how long the ailment might sideline him. Kipnis already got a late start to the Cactus League season as he worked his way back from surgery in December to repair tendon damage in his left ring finger. The Indians should have more on his status later Thursday.
