Player Notes
Ike Davis launched his second home run in as many days in Wednesday's victory over the Cardinals.

Advice: After belting a go-ahead, pinch-hit, three-run homer Tuesday, Davis got the start Wednesday and deposited an Adam Wainwright mistake well over the right-center field wall for a two-run shot in the second inning. The two runs wound up being all Jeff Locke and the Pirates' bullpen needed. Davis figures to see regular time against righties at first base if Pedro Alvarez (foot) is out a while.

Ike Davis hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run in the eighth inning to propel the Pirates to a 5-2 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Advice: Davis, who hasn't started a game in a week, was called on with two runners on to face Cardinals reliever Seth Maness. The first baseman broke the 2-2 tie with his ninth homer of the season. It was a nice moment for Davis, who has struggled to gain much traction at either of his two major league stops so far, and with Pedro Alvarez possibly out Davis could see more at-bats in the coming weeks.
