Player Notes
Anthony Rizzo (back) is out again Thursday.

Advice: Rizzo also sat out Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's series-opener against the Reds with lower back tightness. He's still considered day-to-day. Chris Valaika will start at first base in Thursday's series finale.

Anthony Rizzo (back) is not in the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Rizzo exited Tuesday's game due to lower back tightness. It's not considered a big deal, but the Cubs want to be safe. Rizzo should be back in there in a day or two. Chris Valaika is playing first base Wednesday.

Anthony Rizzo left Tuesday's game against the Reds as a precaution due to lower back tightness.

Advice: The Cubs double-switched him out of the game with a three-run lead. Rizzo should have a shot to return to the lineup on Wednesday. He slugged his 30th homer of the season in one of his four at-bats before exiting.

Anthony Rizzo's first-inning, two-run home run was the deciding factor in the Cubs' win over the Giants on Thursday -- a game resumed from Tuesday.

Advice: The Giants won a protest and Tuesday's match against the Cubs was resumed on Thursday with the Cubs leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth. The Giants scored once in the sixth, but Rizzo's home run two days ago stood the test of time and was the reason the Cubs won. Rizzo finished 2-for-4, his other hit being a double. The first baseman now has 29 home runs, 69 RBI, and a .279/.377/.515 slash line.
