Player Notes
Hector Rondon tossed a scoreless ninth inning Friday against the Brewers for his 15th save of the season.

Advice: Rondon struck out one batter in the frame and worked around a one-out single from Shane Peterson to lock down the victory. Cubs manager Joe Maddon backed off Rondon for a stretch, but he has now gone to him for saves in each of the last three days. While he has reestablished himself as the team's closer, look for him to get a day off Saturday.

Hector Rondon recorded his second save in two days Thursday with a perfect ninth against the Brewers.

Advice: It looks like the closing gig is Rondon's again, which begs the question of why he was ever lifted from the spot in the first place. He could be a top-10 closer the rest of the way.

Thu, Jul 30 Rotoworld
Hector Rondon notched picked up his 13th save of the season Wednesday afternoon against the Rockies.

Advice: Rondon walked one but struck out two of the four batters he faced in a mostly clean ninth frame. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Tuesday evening that Rondon could reclaim closer duties at some point, and it looks like we may already be headed in that direction. Maddon had been using a ninth-inning committee.

Wed, Jul 29 Rotoworld
Cubs manager Joe Maddon indicated Tuesday that Hector Rondon could get another shot in the closer role.

Advice: "Of course he could, and I anticipate he will at some point," Maddon said. "I think (Pedro) Strop has that kind of stuff, too. Strop and Rondon are two physically gifted, stuff-wise, closers. We have to get to the point where they are mentally able to deal with that role on a nightly basis. And the big thing is not after they've done well. How do you deal with it after you've not done so well." It's somewhat encouraging for Rendon owners, although Maddon certainly didn't commit to using him in the ninth inning. Jason Motte seems likely to be pulled off the role for now, but we could just see Maddon play the matchups.
