Player Notes
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said that Jonathan Lucroy is getting a planned day off Thursday.

Advice: Trade speculation surfaced as soon as Thursday's lineup card was released, but Lucroy is staying put for now. Still, there's a good chance he's dealt by the August 1 non-waiver trade deadline.

Jonathan Lucroy is not in the Brewers' starting lineup Thursday night against the Pirates.

Advice: Commence the trade speculation. Lucroy tallied three RBI and a stolen base on Wednesday night, but Martin Maldonado will get the nod at catcher Thursday. He is batting eighth versus Bucs lefty Francisco Liriano.

Jonathan Lucroy drove in three runs and added a stolen base as the Brewers beat the Pirates 9-5 on Wednesday.

Advice: He drove in two runners with a single to left in the sixth inning, then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in an insurance run in the eighth inning. Lucroy's name is swirling in trade rumors but it hasn't been a distraction for the All Star catcher. He is batting .305/.362/.492 with 12 home runs in 311 at-bats.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Indians are "in talks" for a potential Jonathan Lucroy trade.

Advice: There are no details as to who the Indians might have to give up in return for Lucroy. As far as available catchers go, the 30-year-old backstop is about as reliable as they come. This season, he is slashing .305/.362/.494 with 12 homers and 45 RBI over the course of 308 at-bats. Lucroy has told FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman that he would like to play for a contender. At 55-38 and holding a seven-game lead in the AL Central, the Indians would fit that bill.

Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-run home run, his 12th of the season, against the Reds on Saturday.

Advice: He finished the game 1-for-3 plus a walk. His batting average climbs to .303 and the two RBI give him 45 for the season. Lucroy is one of the best catchers in baseball, both with the bat and the glove. His name is swirling in trade rumors and there is a high likelihood he will be changing teams in the next two weeks. He will be a fantasy stud no matter where he ends up.

SB Nation's Scott Gelman reports the Braves are looking to acquire a catcher at the trade deadline.

Advice: The Braves will be without Tyler Flowers (fractured hand) for the next 4-6 weeks, which leaves them with A.J. Pierzynski and Anthony Recker behind the plate. Jonathan Lucroy has piqued Atlanta's interest in the past, though the catcher has already said he would prefer to play for a contender. Lucroy is set to become a free agent in 2018 and the Braves would probably need some assurance that he'd be open to a contract extension before pursuing him in a trade. The Rangers have also been linked to Lucroy, who was named to his second All-Star team earlier this month.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that trade talks between the Brewers and Rangers "went nowhere" regarding Jonathon Lucroy.

Advice: Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reported earlier Friday that the Rangers have discussed both Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress with the Brewers, but there's nothing to suggest that anything is close and Texas could be better off using their assets to acquire a starting pitcher. Meanwhile, Haudricourt hears that the asking price for Lucroy remains "very high." And that's understandable, as Lucroy's contract includes a bargain $5.25 million club option for 2017.
