Player Notes
Kurt Suzuki doubled and drove in three runs against the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Suzuki ended the game 2-for-4. He hit the third inning double off of White Sox starter Chris Sale and added an RBI single in the seventh and an RBI groundout in the ninth. Suzuki had a chance to do more damage than that, as the bases were loaded in the final frame, but he couldn't come through against Jake Petricka as the Twins lost 10-8. Suzuki has had a solid season, especially in the average and on-base categories, slashing .309/.372/.395. Maybe there's just something in the air in Minnesota that allows catchers to hit for average.

Twins signed C Kurt Suzuki to a two-year, $12 million contract extension.

Advice: There's also a vesting option for 2017 based on plate appearances. The Twins had an opportunity to sell high on Suzuki during an All-Star season, but they decided to lock him up long-term instead. That means Josmil Pinto isn't going to take over at catcher in Minnesota anytime soon.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Twins have reengaged Kurt Suzuki about an extension.

Advice: The initial round of talks didn't get very far, but Rosenthal is now hearing that there's a "reasonable chance it gets done." Suzuki is having a career year offensively at age 30, batting .304/.367/.386 in 347 plate appearances. He signed a bargain one-year, $2.75 million free agent contract with Minnesota last winter.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are not pursuing Twins' catcher Kurt Suzuki.

Advice: CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported a few days ago that the O's and Cardinals were showing trade interest in Suzuki, but Baltimore apparently feels content with their in-house options. St. Louis might also be out as an option after their recent addition of A.J. Pierzynski.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles and Cardinals are among the teams showing trade interest in Kurt Suzuki.

Advice: The report backs up Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, who said in an interview earlier Friday that Suzuki was "in play" for the Cards. Suzuki makes sense for both clubs, as the Orioles (Matt Wieters) and the Cardinals (Yadier Molina) have both lost catchers to injury. The Twins have tried to extend the All-Star catcher, but talks didn't get very far. Suzuki is hitting .308 this season and has batted .348/.413/.409 over his last 19 games.

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said in an interview on CBS Sports 920 Friday that the Cardinals trading for a catcher is "in play."

Advice: Strauss mentioned Kurt Suzuki as someone who "would make sense," which is no surprise since the Cards are known to be scouting the Twins backstop. Tony Cruz and George Kottaras are batting a combined .156 (5-for-32) since Yadier Molina (thumb) went down, so St. Louis could look to upgrade for the next month or so until Yadi returns.
