Player Notes
Tim Lincecum has been moved to the Giants' bullpen.

Advice: The writing had been on the wall, and manager Bruce Bochy made the move official on Monday. Yusmeiro Petit will start on Thursday in Lincecum's place. Bochy would only commit to the one start for Petit, but it's certainly possible the move is permanent. Lincecum went through a nice stretch earlier this season that included a no-hitter, but he holds a 9.49 ERA over his last five starts, pushing his overall mark to 4.64.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy after Saturday's game would not commit to Tim Lincecum making his next start.

Advice: Lincecum was bashed for six runs -- four earned -- over 2 2/3 innings versus the Nationals Saturday and holds a 9.49 ERA over his last five outings. "This is something we need to talk about internally, what our best option is," Bochy said. "We'll look at it and see what the best thing is for Timmy and for us the next time around." The most likely replacement for Lincecum would be Yusmeiro Petit, who replaced Lincecum Saturday and threw 4 1/3 perfect relief frames. Petit has actually retired 38 straight batters in relief and holds a 1.84 ERA out of the bullpen this season. His ERA in six spot starts is 6.32, but the Giants might overlook that and decide to change things up. "It's a small sample," Bochy said.

Tim Lincecum surrendered six runs -- four earned -- over 2 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Lincecum has never pitched well against the Nationals and he was especially bad on Saturday, yielding six hits and four walks before exiting in the bottom of the third. He has struggled mightily since the All-Star break. A home date with the Rockies is next.
