Player Notes
Making his second appearance with the Mets this season, newly acquired reliever Tyler Clippard allowed a hit and no runs over his inning of work.

Advice: Clippard entered in the eighth inning with the Mets holding a 7-5 lead. Jedd Gyorko burned him for a double with one out, but the new Metropolitan was able to retire the next two batters without incident. Closer Jeurys Familia would enter an inning later and blow his third straight save. Familia's probably still got wiggle room, but there can't be much at this point. Clippard could see save opportunities if the struggles continue. He held a 2.97 ERA and 38/21 K/BB ratio in 38 2/3 innings prior to jumping over from the A's to the Mets.

Mets acquired RHP Tyler Clippard and cash considerations from the Athletics in exchange for RHP Casey Meisner.

Advice: Clippard has had control issues this season with 21 walks over 38 2/3 innings. He's also struck out 38, though, while posting a 2.79 ERA. It's unclear at this point what role he'll serve in, but he'll most likely help set up for Jeurys Familia. Clippard will be a free agent after the season. Edward Mujica is likely the favorite for saves with the A's now.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi, the Mets are making progress on a trade for A's closer Tyler Clippard.

Advice: But there are other teams still in play. Clippard, who might be the next domino to fall on this trade market, owns a 2.79 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings this season along with 17 saves. The 30-year-old right-hander would probably get a shot at closer duties in New York given the recent struggles of Jeurys Familia.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Tyler Clippard is expected to be the next member of the Athletics traded before Friday's deadline.

Advice: Slusser notes that the Nationals, Mets and Yankees are all teams that have been linked to the right-hander, with several other contenders also in the market for bullpen help. The 30-year-old, who is a free agent following the 2015 season, owns a 2.79 ERA and 38/21 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings with the A's this season.
