Player Notes
Astros signed RHP Pat Neshek to a two-year, $12.5 million contract with a club option for 2017.

Advice: The option will be worth between $6.5 million and $9 million, depending on how many games Neshek finishes the next two seasons. Neshek parlayed a minor league contract last January with the Cardinals into an All-Star season that saw him post a 1.87 ERA and 68/9 K/BB ratio over 67 1/3 innings. He could be in the mix to close some games in Houston but most likely will function as a setup man.

Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports that Pat Neshek will a two-year, $12.5 million contract from the Astros.

Advice: The deal also includes an option for a third year. McTaggart writes that Neshek was about to sign with the Pirates before the Astros improved their offer at the last minute. It was enough to get the deal done. The Astros have committed $31 million to the back-end of their bullpen with the additions of Neshek and Luke Gregerson.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Astros have reached a deal with reliever Pat Neshek.

Advice: No word yet on the exact terms, but Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the two sides were talking about a two-year deal. Neshek had to settle for a minor league contract last offseason, but he emerged as a surprise success story in the back-end of the Cardinals' bullpen. The Astros now have a trio of veteran late-inning options with Luke Gregerson and Chad Qualls also in the mix.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Astros are "closing in" on signing reliever Pat Neshek.

Advice: It's expected to be a two-year deal. The Astros have already agreed to a deal with Luke Gregerson, but the effort to bolster the back-end of their bullpen continues. Neshek is coming off an excellent season with the Cardinals in which he posted a 1.87 ERA with 68 strikeouts and just nine walks over 67 1/3 innings.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that Pat Neshek is in "serious talks" with three teams and a resolution is expected soon.

Advice: The Astros, who have been linked to every major reliever, are one of them. Neshek stumbled a bit down the stretch this past season, but still finished with an outstanding 1.87 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and 68/9 K/BB ratio over 67 1/3 innings. The Pirates have also been mentioned as a possible landing spot.

According to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Pirates "like" free agent Pat Neshek.

Advice: Neshek faded at the end of his impressive 2014 in St. Louis, but he still wound up with a sparkling 1.87 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and 68/9 K/BB ratio in 67 1/3 total innings. The 34-year-old right-hander is likely looking to cash in big after watching Andrew Miller sign a four-year, $36 million contract with the Yankees and David Robertson land a four-year, $46 million deal from the White Sox.
