RHP Edinson Volquez had a bad day all the way around. Even before taking the mound in St. Louis Tuesday, a scoring change by MLB added two earned runs to Volquez for his May 17 start. A two-run error originally charged to CF Cameron Maybin was changed to a double for the Dodgers' Andre Ethier, making two unearned runs earned. He then gave up three runs on five hits and four walks in six innings in St. Louis. When the day started, Volquez had a 3.04 ERA. When it ended, his ERA was up to 3.49.

Volquez allowed five hits, three earned runs, issued four walks, and struck out one over six innings in a losing effort Tuesday against the Cardinals.
Recommendation: Command continues to be an issue for Volquez, and he was unable to overcome the free passes Tuesday night. He typically strikes out a good number of batters, but struggled to miss bats, which helps explain his poor outing. While his high walk rate makes him a risky play, he is capable of contributing very good numbers.
