1B Ryan Howard would've earned a $500,000 bonus if he had finished second in the NL MVP voting. Instead, he finished third, an achievement that carried no financial compensation. St. Louis 1B Albert Pujols was the unanimous selection for MVP, his third award in the past five years. Florida SS Hanley Ramirez, who won the NL batting title, finished second in the MVP balloting, ahead of Howard, the 2006 NL MVP. Howard was named on 31 of 32 ballots and finished with 217 points. Ramirez received 15 second-place votes and finished with 233 points. Howard tied for the NL lead with 141 RBIs and finished third with 45 home runs. 2B Chase Utley finished eighth in the MVP voting, while RF Jayson Werth finished 17th and CF Shane Victorino finished 18th. |
